CQ CQ CQ #HamRadio Saturday – Roman Projects

Because I was travelling, I was not on air much.  I did make a contact via Echolink with Father KD8ZFF.

I made a non-radio contact with Father F5SNJ in Rome, Fr. William Barker, FSSP.  We are working on a couple projects.  We would like to organize a couple special events for the Year of Mercy that would involve the activation of the call signs of the Sovereign Military Order of the Knights of Malta (SMOM) which is 1A0C (or a special event call, perhaps) and of the Vatican itself, HV___.

We met with highly placed figures in the SMOM and in the Vatican City State (SCV).

Here is a shot of the palace of the administrative offices for the SCV.

Looking the other direction from the steps.

We ran into two serious hard walls in our venture.  But there are now chips in those walls.

And Fr. Barker and I had a couple good meals over it.

My plotting and scheming is not yet over.

I am also plotting on a local level to get a serious station set up.  More on that later.

Lastly, my call sign may change in the next couple days.

MEANWHILE… you hams out there… check out…

If you are not on the list and you want to be, drop me a line or post a comment, below.

I’m a regular reader of this blog, but I post very little. I recently got a Technician Class ham radio license, KG5JVO. I had a novice license many years ago (KB2EPK), but I let it expire. Reading Fr. Z’s ham radio adventures inspired me to get back into it. I remember some things about the hobby from years ago, but I am mostly starting fresh. I have some great books from the ARRL [American Radio Relay League] that I am reading through, and hopefully I will be on the air before too long. Right now I just need to do lots of reading and listening on the air. It would really help if I could find an Elmer, but I haven’t found one yet. Lots of questions. In the mean time, thank you Fr. Z for all you do. Your unfailing balance and common sense are a real help in these trying times. Keep up the great work.

Any help you need on setting up a local station…you know where I am…

Spent a good afternoon repairing my heliax lead out to my vertical; found a chip in the cover…which let water in…well, now have flooded direct burial cable running out there…so, all is well now. 20 is hopping, 40 is not far behind…couple contests going on…think I’ll put in some seat time this afternoon and log some contacts.

Any assistance in anything…well, I’m sure I echo many hams here…whether prayers or pitching in to help as required…that is what Catholics (and Hams) do for each other.

    Yep, that’ll come pretty soon!
