DECREE of Pontifical Commission “Ecclesia Dei” about 13 May 2017 – Our Lady of Fatima

ORIGINALLY Published on: Apr 5, 2017

I received from the offices of the Pontifical Commission “Ecclesia Dei” the following DECREE.

This decree says that on 13 May 2017, the 100th Anniversary of the apparitions at Fatima, it is granted and permitted using the Extraordinary Form to celebrate a Votive Mass of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (from 22 August) as 2nd Class and to use the pertinent commemorations.

    Father,
That Saturday is the feast of St. Robert Bellarmine, Bp., Conf. & Doctor and is of the 3rd Class. So, the Votive Mass would require that as the Commemoration, I presume?

    Father,

I have a friend getting married on that day and I shall be the MC at that wedding. The Mass is going to be pro sponsis. Can we make the Commemoration of the Imaculate Heart? If so, do we also have to make the Commemoration of St. Robert Bellarmine or do we just do the first one?

This is good news and very welcome. Am I right in thinking that this applies only to the year 2017?

  4. Imrahil says:

Sorry for interpreting the law, but I guess with “ut in die XXII Augusti” they do not mean to include the Commemorations assigned to that day… [C’MON!!]

(Or, did they fall away somewhen? They are in my missal still, which has the 1962 Holy Week.)

This is, of course, very welcome. I guess though that at least with organized devotional events to the occasion, this would have been a II class votive Mass for an important occasion anyway. These seem to require the consent, or the implied consent, or whatever, of the Bishop, so having more clarity and making bureaucracy easier is still very good…

The Concordat stamp is a nice touch of Romanitas!!

Perhaps a fun “ACTION ITEM” might be a highly ornate, absurdly large and loud rubber stamp to send to the good men at PCED?
