15-18 July 2019: East Coast Priest Conference in Wheeling, WV – looks good!

I have heard great things from a couple priests about the St. Paul Center’s East Coast Priest Conference.   This year, 2019, it is to be held at Oglebay Resort and Conference Center in Wheeling, WV, which looks like a really beautiful place.   The speakers will be Scott Hahn, John Bergsma and Ralph Martin.

I wrote to them about being TLM friendly and right away got a couple of notes back from their Director of Events about what we could do!  Very friendly.

I think I’ll go to this.   Fathers, click, above and check it out!

The organizers have – as an incentive – provided you priestly readers with a special CODE you can use if you sign up, which will give you a $100 discount.

The image they put on the webpage for the conference is a detail from a painting in – if memory serves – the Louvre in Paris, Carreno de Miranda’s Mass of the Foundation of the Trinitarian Order.   This is hardcore in a couple ways.  First, note the liturgical style.  Second, the Trinitarians were seriously bad ass when they were founded.  They were dedicated to the ransoming of captives from Muslims.

    “Oglebay Resort”

Hmmmmmm …. is that where Baywatch was filmed?

Two candles for a solemn high Mass?

The picture is appealing, the style, reverence, and awe are unmistakable. That reverence and awe are what made converts, and sustained the faithful. There is a list in todays N. Y. Post numbering the closing of catholic schools, we are reaping what the spirit of VII sowed. Will anybody wake up?

How the artist captured the obvious belief of the Trinitarians in the most Holy Sacrament of the Altar shown in that painting is remarkable.

YES! And this is what I have banged on about for years now. The Trinitarians dedicated themselves to the hardest corporal works of mercy that there were. But their strength to carry out their apostolate flowed from the Blessed Sacrament.

When I hear priests and bishops rattle on about this or that initiative, I am 99% sure that not a single one of them will mention sacred liturgical worship as the root and goal, the source and end of these initiatives. No project that we undertake will bear lasting fruit unless it stems from and returns to our sacred liturgical worship of God.

  6. Fr Z:

I will be at that conference. However, I signed up before the Z-discount was announced! Alas.

Oglebay Park was the home and estate of an industrialist who gave it to the City of Wheeling along with money to maintain it. It’s a neat place. The older part of the lodge is “quaint” and the newer addition on the back is excellent. It has a small zoo, a big model railroad display, three golf courses, tennis courts, tours of the mansion, botanic displays, and so on. The diocese in which it’s located is problematic, and is without a Bishop at the moment. It would not go amiss if you would conduct a proper exorcism of the diocese while you’re there.

  8. Gab says:

Hopefully Fr Z will either train it or drive to Wheeling. I don’t think I could handle the stress of another flight!

  9. JonPatrick says:

He could take the Amtrak Capitol Limited overnight from Chicago to Pittsburgh then rent a car and drive to Wheeling from there. Not sure exactly where Fr Z lives, but there are several trains a day from Milwaukee to Chicago plus a bus connection from Madison WI.

  10. Gab says:

As long as he doesn’t hire a motorbike, JonPatrick!

  11. Fr AJ says:

This conference is wonderful! I was at it last year for the first time and signed up immediately afterwards for this year. Dr. Brant Pitre was a presenter last year along with Dr. Hahn and Dr. Bergsma.

  12. mrs wu says:

One of my favorite priests EVER is in that troubled diocese……..Fr. Grassi of St Thomas Aquinas Church in Thomas WV. Than whom, it gets no better!

  13. mrs wu says:

And he doesn’t need to rent a car in Pittsburgh….he can stay on the Capitol Limited to Cumberland MD or Harpers Ferry WV, and drive from there….
