WDTPRS Easter Monday – Post Communion

The Post Communion prayer for today’s Mass in the Ordinary Form caught my eye because of it’s interesting beginning.
Exuberet, quaesumus, Domine,
mentibus nostris paschalis gratia sacramenti,
ut, quos viam fecisti perpetuae salutis intrare,
donis tuis dignos efficias.
This prayer was pasted together from components … Continue reading

QUAERITUR: Too many people for confession. Priest gives General Absolution.

From a reader:
This past Saturday afternoon, I went to confession (or, rather, I tried to go to confession). The good news is that the line was full of penitents. There were at least 25 people waiting in front of me … Continue reading

If a six-year old can get it right…

From a readerette:
Father,
Back before the new translation was implemented, I talked to my six year old son about the changes and what the new words meant. Since, then, it hasn’t come up again until today.
We were in the car and my kids … Continue reading

QUAERITUR: Ashes, Very Small Children, and You – An annual discussion.

From a priest:
Reverend and Dear Father,
Ash Wednesday is soon to be upon us, and I am faced with the situation I am often faced with: whether to impose ashes on cute, angel-faced infants.
It never fails that, as the faithful come … Continue reading

Nancy Pelosi: ‘I am going to stick with fellow Catholics’ in Pres. Obama’s war on Catholics. Wherein Fr. Z rants.

Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), catholic and openly an abortion absolutist, is from the Archdiocese of San Francisco, but she spends most of her time in Washington DC.  She has at least quasi-domicile in the Archdiocese of Washington DC.
She is Archbishop Niederauer’s … Continue reading

A bishop promotes the Sacrament of Penance

“But Father! But Father!”, I read in my email, “You are always telling us to go to confession but around here priests don’t hear confessions very often if at all!  What are we supposed to do?”
Thus, I read of the … Continue reading

CTS (UK) People’s Edition of the Roman Missal (“hand missal” for Ordinary Form)

The other day I received and reviewed the Altar Edition of the new Roman Missal (with the new corrected translation) published by the Catholic Truth Society in England. It is a wonderful book, and on reflection I think it … Continue reading

Pagan chant to the deity Olokun in the Basilica of St. Francis during Assisi III

I think the whole Assisi III thing was overblown. I watched a bit of it and read some of the interventions. Dull.
However, someone sent this by email.  In the Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi, for this inter-religious … Continue reading

Note to bishops: Summorum Pontificum replaced Ecclesia Dei adflicta. No… really… it did.

It defies reason, but sometimes we still find bishops who think that Summorum Pontificum and Universae Ecclesiae don’t exist and that they can still order matters concerning the older form of Mass according to the now superseded Ecclesia Dei adflicta.
Bishop … Continue reading
