Alice von Hildebrand reflected the truth and beauty of the Catholic faith. The present pontificate is a sad contrast to her example.
One of my favorite quotes of Dr. Von Hildebrand:
“The devil hates the ancient mass. He hates it because it is the perfect reformulation of all the teachings of the Church”.
A great soul. And such a lady.
I see Alice von Hildebrand shared your view about the toxic clannishness which affects a few, but too many, trads :
“It is one of the fears I have about traditional Catholics. Some flirt with fanaticism. A fanatic is one who considers truth to be his personal possession instead of God’s gift. We are servants of the truth, and it is as servants that we seek to share it.
I am very concerned that there are “fanatical” Catholics who use the Faith and the truth it proclaims as an intellectual toy. An authentic appropriation of the truth always leads to a striving for holiness. The Faith, in this present crisis, is not an intellectual chess game. For anyone not striving for holiness, that’s all it will ever be. Such people do more harm to the Faith, particularly if they are proponents of the traditional Mass.” Latin Mass Magazine 2001
I’m truly saddened to hear this. She was a champion of Catholicism and lived a life to emulate. God bless her and rest her soul.
Sad to hear that she has left this world. She and her brave husband have long been two of my Catholic heroes. I loved her conversations with Mother Angelica. Now that was quite a pair! May she rest in peace and be rewarded, along with her husband, for being defenders of the Faith!

Yes. She, her husband, and Michael Davies. Such rocks of fortitude, fidelity and erudition, always charitable. Many others, of course! But those three just spring to mind immediately, in the Anglo-world anyway. Sempiternam requiem dona ei, pie Iesu Domine.
