Happy news was related to me via email.
One of WDTPRS’s favorite American bishops, His Excellency Most Rev. Edward Slattery of Tulsa, Oklahoma found a place for the FSSP in Broken Arrow, home of one of the great pitchers of all time Warren Spahn.
I just threw that last part in because I happened to know it.
Here is the news I received.
The Parish of St. Peter in Tulsa, OK, staffed by the FSSP, has recently acquired its own permanent residence. For well over a decade, it has been sharing a small church with another congregation in North Tulsa.
Thanks to His Excellency Bishop Slattery and Sr. Theresa Gottschalk, we have been able to acquire the beautiful old Convent of Our Lady of Sorrows in Broken Arrow, OK.
This is a giant leap forward for the parish, the Diocese of Tulsa, and the spread of Catholic Tradition. Bishop Slattery will be saying our first Mass in the new church. I will let you know once the date and time have been established. I have some pictures of the convent I can email you in case you are interested in posting them on your blog. Please pray for us!

As a parishoner of St. Peter’s, we’ve been praying for this very dearly for some time. This is actually the first public confirmation I’ve heard about it.

Traditional Catholicism will spread throughout America and Oklahoma seems to be the epicenter.
This is wonderful news. While I go to a different parish in the diocese, I have told Fr. Van der Putten that my heart is with the Parish of St. Peter. This couldn’t have happened to better people who are lead by two wonderful priests. The priests are on fire for the faith; they know it and love it and teach the faith. At a recent retreat in the Diocese it was the parishioners of this church that filled the event. While I’m sure it didn’t hurt that they sponsored the event and that Fr. Van der Putten was speaking, I could hardly get anyone from my parish to attend.
As to the our Bishop, the Most Rev. Edward Slattery, I have to say I consider myself very fortunate to be under his leadership. He is a wonderfully orthodox Bishop, and I pray for him. Not only has he been a great supporter of the FSSP here in Tulsa, but he has brought in two monasteries, Clear Creek and Our Lady of the Centacle. The latter has the mission to pray before the Blessed Sacrament for our priests and the former is a traditional Benedictine monastery, which I just got to visit on Good Friday, and is an amazing place. Top this all off with our wonderful shepherd saying his Mass ad orientam and setting up the Te Deum Institute on the Sacred Liturgy and what you have in the Diocese of Tulsa is a hotbed for the reform of the reform and traditional Catholic values. May Almighty God Bless our Bishop. St. John Vianney pray for our Bishop.
