Gower Abbey with a new disc- Christ The King At Ephesus

The wonderful Benedictine nuns of Gower Abbey in Missouri, who were the victims of  drive by shootings a while ago, who are award winning recording artists, have a new disc of sacred music coming out.

This is one of the most wonderful monasteries of Benedictines … anywhere.  I was at the consecration of their abbey church and the consecration of Abbess by the late, lamented Bp. Morlino.

Thank you good Father for sharing.
    This is truly magnificent!

  2. Adelle Cecilia says:

I love their music. We have a couple of their copyrighted pieces, which we’ve had trouble using in this age of live-streaming everything, and they’re beautiful. Their recordings are also beautiful.
My sister has spent extended time at the abbey twice, and loves the sisters there, who just consider the drive-bys and other forms of local vandalism to be unfortunate examples of evil attacking those who wish to be holy.

The Sisters gave me a tour of their ecclesial sewing room about 10 years ago. They invited my husband and me to eat lunch and pray one of the offices with them in their little chapel. Peace. Joy. Simplicity. Beauty.

Clearly Fr. Z, your readers have a soft heart for our beloved priests, so I share this:
What stuck with us most was a large, hand carved, wooden crucifix looking down over the convent refectory table (with a miraculous origin story of its own). Affixed below the crucifix was one of those large paper clamps full of business cards, each one the business card of a priest. Every morning one of the sisters would move the front card to the back of the stack, and they would spend the day praying by name for the next priest whose card appeared. So simple and so great! Wonder if they still do that…

  4. Ave Maria says:

I do have a concern that with everything holy being persecuted from within the Church, and with the traditional Carmelites in the crosshairs (the Franciscans of the Immaculate the first targeted under present regime), that these wonderful Benedictines may also be on the list by those wielding power in the Vatican.

    In the news yesterday:
“Workers began digging holes this week to erect an 8-foot wall outside a northeast Missouri abbey after shots were fired into the abbey’s walls at least four times in the last two years.”

They still have not caught anyone. I pray they do. The sheriff is still investigating.
