HuffPo‘s spittle-flecked nutty about Card. George of Chicago. His Eminence made an on-camera remark about the homosexual-activist movement possibly morphing into something like the KKK.
Cardinal George: Chicago Gay Pride Parade, LGBT Movement Could ‘Morph Into Ku Klux Klan’
Cardinal Francis George, the Archbishop of Chicago, this week told a Chicago news station that he agreed with a local Roman Catholic church’s objections to the city’s recently-adjusted Gay Pride Parade route passing by its doors and warned that the parade could “morph into the Ku Klux Klan.” [KKK=Intolerant bigots who use violence and intimidation to get their way. You don’t think there might be any negativity expressed by the paraders toward anything Catholic, do you?]
George made the comment Sunday on Fox Chicago when asked about Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s complaints that the parade passing by its Belmont Avenue location would force the church to cancel its morning mass. The church recently launched a petition urging the city to force parade organizers to adjust their plans.
“I go with the pastor,” George told Fox. “He’s telling us that he won’t be able to have services on Sunday if that’s the case. You don’t want the gay liberation movement to morph into something like the Ku Klux Klan, demonstrating in the streets against Catholicism.” [Do I hear an “Amen!”?]

When the Fox host pointed out that George’s comparison was “a little strong,” [OOOOO! A man of the cloth used strong words! OOOOO!] the cardinal stood by his statement.
“It is, but you take a look at the rhetoric,” he continued. “The rhetoric of the Ku Klux Klan, the rhetoric of some of the gay liberation people. Who is the enemy? Who is the enemy? The Catholic Church.”
The cardinal’s comments came a matter of days before the Gay Pride Parade organizers announced Wednesday that the pride start time, originally pushed back to 10 a.m. in an effort to curb public drinking, overcrowding and other safety hazards, [What could possibly go wrong?] would revert back to noon in order to stay clear of the church’s Sunday mass, according to the Windy City Times.
LGBT Catholic group the Rainbow Sash Movement criticized Cardinal George as promoting a “doubled standard” in pushing for the parade to start later.
“One only has the look at the Chicago Marathon, and negative impact that race has on parishes such as Assumption Parish, St. Joseph’s Parish, Immaculate Conception Parish and St. Michael’s Parish just to name a few,” the statement read, as reported by the Windy City Times. [What a dopey notion. The Marathon and the Unnatural Parade are moral equivalents? It is to laugh.]

Now that’s a good Catholic! You better believe there will be hateful words and actions by these bigots as they pass by. All I can say is grab the statues and stand guard!
Catholics need to STAND UP to others who hate them! Once you start a face-off, 9 times out of 10 the cowards back down.
Let’s see them parade their perverted selves past a local mosque right when it counts and watch for the reaction. We’ve just been too complacent too long.

At the very minimum, simply having such a large event would naturally make it impossible or very difficult to hold Mass at its regular time. What’s worse, as a Catholic, I would not want to be walking into the Church with something like this going on, and I can easily see things going south for parishioners.
I would wonder if this parade would fall under the laws regarding interrupting a religious ceremony?

We are in a very serious condition now. There has been no push-back on the gay activists, and they have become so hostile and aggressive that for anyone to say anything is tantamount to full challenge to angrily engage. And this works! See how it works by the catatonic expressions on everyone’s faces when even a hint of this topic comes up in conversation! Fear, hesitancy, and everyone crawling away on their bellies, hopefully undetected.
There is no way to beat back the tide of gay activism without someone, anyone, EVERYONE, developing some ennervation in their spinal cord area, and using their vocal cord area. It does not mean we become the ugly mob, or individual, but we are woefully poor at insisting on our own particular Constitutional rights are respected.
For whatever reason, I absolutely do not look to my priests or Bishop to lead the way on this issue, or any issue, except why illegal immigrants much be given legal protections in the US. There does not seem to be any other issue which the Bishops are much interested in, and leading the flock? May I say…Hah! I love our clergy, all of them. I appreciate the lives of sacrifice they live. But as it pertains to the redefinition of marriage (better phrase which puts the onus on the other side to explain WHY marriage ought to be redefined), or contraception, abortion, life, euthanasia, assisted suicide, these issues may as not exist in our Catholic world, because at least in my area, they are verboten topics, not discussed. Ever. Oh, the occasional nod to life, particularly on “life” days, but, for the most part, the clergy won’t hit em.
As a “singular activist”, I do what I can, make phone calls, write letters, speak out, complain, defend my Constitutional rights as best I can while being my own lawyer, but there is, in Connecticut anyway, virtually no leadership on these topics what-so-ever.
No one seems poised to take on these radical extremists, who are marching over our Constitutional rights and intimidating us all into allowing our culture to be hijacked. I admit, they can be an ugly group. I’ve faced them myself at events in my own state, and they try to be intimidating. I’ve been called vile names while smiling and handing out pamphlets about why the redefinition of marriage is not a good idea. I’ve had people scream in my face.
In Connecticut there is a fantastic group, the lone voice of resistance to this rabid movement. I wish the church would do as much as these people have. They are called the “Family Institute of Connecticut”, and Peter Wolfgang is the director. Brian Brown, Oxford educated gentleman, who used to be the head of FIC, is now the director of a national movement, also excellent, the National Organization for Marriage (NOM). Both organizations are hard-working, effective, courageous, and they are on the front lines of this precarious cultural battle, that is not going to go away. We ought to support any groups like these, who do the dirty work and take the heat directly. If I had money, they would get much of it. Because fight we must, or allow our culture to be completely altered. I don’t think most people have any idea what the goal is, of these radical gay groups. Once upon a time it was just “tolerance”. Then it became “civil unions”. Now it is “marriage”. But that is only the beginning.
I am sorry this is such a long comment. This topic certainly hits a nerve for me. I get discouraged, because my church is silent while sinners are lost, and our Judeo-Christian culture is pillaged. The frustration is unbearable, because where our our church leaders when we really need them?????? I know it’s hard! It would be hard to have vandals hit your church. It would be hard to have picketers screaming awful things at your parishioners! It would be hard to be targeted! But silence……..screams acquiescence. And unbearable weakness. Maybe it’s me, I’m Irish. I would much rather “go down fighting”, than to roll over and give in to bullies. I care about my country and our children’s future enough to speak up, be heard, and do my best to hold our Christian place in the world.

They will send you emails about issues and the email addresses of who to contact to make a comment, complain, etc. They take the heat, and all you have to do is send an email. But emails are counted, and every phone call, email, letter, matters. We can all do something.
Until church leaders catch up, I find solace in the Salesian’s motto, “Better to light one candle than to curse the darkness”.
One of the worst kept secrets of all time is the shocking depravities and bizarre ‘self-expressions’ that are an intrinsic part of ‘Gay Pride’ Parades everywhere. The basic ‘theme’ is invariably self-hatred, gender confusion and a more than generous dose of sadomasochism. Canceling the morning mass would not be a mere ‘gesture’ but a necessity to protect the young from seeing things that even the most jaded roué would find novel. As for seeing the transvestite nuns and hateful travesties of the church – I’d LIKE our young Catholica to see that. Satan in full regalia. Now, that would be educational.
This is fantastic and God bless Cardinal George. Makes one proud to be a Catholic. As to the issue, he is absolutely correct. How this disgusting parade has been allowed to take over areas where people are trying to take their children into Holy Mass on a Sunday morning is beyond belief. How can one explain men and women walking in underwear, making lewd gestures to our little ones? Where are the men to protect the women against insult? It is actually worse than being in some places in Europe and American Catholics have lost the ground in many cities. The KKK hated Catholics and the gay pride people hate Catholics. The rhetoric is there, as the good Cardinal has pointed out.
I hope the present day seminarians understand that many of them will have to face such an issue in the future, even to the point of martyrdom. And, I know, that in the past, the Cardinal has mentioned that he expects to see priests martyred for standing up for the Truth and natural law. How far has American fallen…
Bigoted anti-Catholicism is something that, ironically, the radical left (ultra-feminists, homosexual-rights activists, militant atheists, etc.) and the radical right (the KKK, neo-nazis, ultra-Evangelicals, etc) have in common. All I know is that we must be doing something correctly if we’re meriting such ire from both ends of the spectrum. “Blessed shall you be when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.”

We are new to Chicago – Land , only been living here since August, but we will continue to keep our Cardinal – His Eminence in our prayers after our family rosary.
I try not to read specifics, as I try to expose my mind to as little blasphemy as possible, but it well known here in New York that when the “gay” pride(???) parade passes in front of St. Patrick’s Cathedral it is an absolute horror show.

This is the second time this week I have used this Scripture passage which was a reading not too long ago in the NO. Under the circumstances, Cardinal George’s comments are mild, compared to Christ’s. The Cardinal could have quoted God Himself with regard to the fact that the Mass is a Miracle of Grace, a Mighty Work, in the midst of depravity–“Woe to thee, Corozain, woe to thee, Bethsaida. For if in Tyre and Sidon had been wrought the mighty works that have been wrought in you, they would have done penance long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.” Luke 10:13
In the movie “Gangs of New York” there is a scene where the nativist, Know-Nothing gang marches to burn down the Catholic church then under construction. The entire parish, archbishop and priests included, stands on the front steps of the church and dares the Know-Nothings to carry out their plans. The gang backs down and the church is saved. If the City of Chicago persists in routing the parade in front of the church, perhaps Cardinal George can organize a similar demonstration of faith and, dressed for Mass wearing his miter and holding his crozier, lead an “occupation” of the entire space in front of OLMC by faithful Catholics praying a continuous Rosary for the conversion of parade participants.

Are we so self-defeating these days that we take these very, very mild remarks from the Cardinal as if they were the words of Joan of Arc attacking the English stronghold? He didn’t come out and say, as he very well should have, that these “parades” are an affront to God and to common sense; he merely asked, “oh, could you please postpone it so our people can go to Mass?” I hardly think such a whimpering response deserves all this adulation.
And then he says that this movement of organized queerdom “could morph into Ku Klux Klan”. Could morph? Where has His Eminence been for the past two decades? It is worse than anything the Klan ever did if for no other reason than it has the full backing of the miserable cretins in government. And it is not above murdering its opponents…or haven’t you been noticing?
Yes, it is nice to see some Cardinal, any Cardinal, even mildly rebuking these monsters, but we musn’t let the tiresome and predictable screams of the moral degenerates confuse us into thinking anything really firm has been done or said. If the hierarchy of the Church would get off their collective rear-ends and start restoring order to the Church, disciplining its wayward clerics and teaching the Faith uncompromisingly and firmly then maybe we will see some improvement in the world. And then we will REALLY hear some screaming from the gadarene swine.
Okay, so the parade has been rescheduled for noon to accommodate the 11:00 am Mass. This becomes the perfect opportunity for Cardinal George to celebrate that Mass and lead his congregation out in front of the church afterwards (as I suggested above) in a public demonstration of Courage and faith. Not for nothing has the route been altered to pass in front of the church. Not for nothing are the robes of His Eminence the color they are.
That would be amazing to see Cardinal George tell the pastor of that parish that he’s taking the 11:00.
Kathleen10 — I agree with the Christophers’ motto, that “it is better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.” Problem is, the dear Lord and I have been having a decades long conversation about my Irish temper — especially when it involves foolishness of the Gay Pride sort. Life would be so much easier if, just occasionally, I could be permitted to light a candle AND curse the darkness, too! Pray for this poor old sinner.

I didn’t detect much spittle flecking in that article. It reports the Cardinal’s words and those of some of his detractors. For my part, I think he has a fair point that many homosexual rights groups do cross the boundaries into hate speech, but he did over-reach a bit.
In any event, intolerant, bigoted and insulting political speech is protected in this country; incitement to violence is not. I hope the marchers can remember that. These are boundaries that seem to work for the cardinal, too.
In addition to my support for Cardinal George and most of the comments here, I am compelled to add my own two-cents worth. I have strong objections to homosexualist activists hijacking the word gay. This falls under the same offensive umbrellas as substituting “CE and BCE” for “AD and BC.”
