IRS bullying of conservatives and pro-lifers

Biretta tip to the pro-life blog of Jill Stanek (who recently linked to me, so I am returning the favor!).

As you know, the IRS has been targeting and harassing conservatives. I wouldn’t be surprised if this came from the Oval Office, but we don’t have proof of that… yet. Here is a video of testimony about the Obama Administration’s bullying of one group.

The IRS required this group not to picket Planned Parenthood.

Just one example.

Remember: The IRS will be dealing with Obamacare.

This is the same Administration, the OBAMA Administration, that required Verizon to turn over their phone call logs.

From Hell’s Bible:

U.S. Is Secretly Collecting Records of Verizon Calls

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is secretly carrying out a domestic surveillance program under which it is collecting business communications records involving Americans under a hotly debated section of the Patriot Act, according to a highly classified court order disclosed on Wednesday night.

The order, signed by Judge Roger Vinson of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court in April, directs a Verizon Communications subsidiary, Verizon Business Network Services, to turn over “on an ongoing daily basis” to the National Security Agency all call logs “between the United States and abroad” or “wholly within the United States, including local telephone calls.”

Even The Fishwrap seems upset. HERE

Do you remember Pres. Obama’s call for a domestic security force? HERE

  1. The IRS scandal doesn’t prove merely that there are rogue agents at the IRS. It proves that the agency itself is rogue. The IRS should be abolished, and the progressive income tax should be replaced with either a flat tax or the fair tax. The taxing power needs to be done away with as a tool of social engineering and a weapon against the government’s political opponents.

I think what depresses me most about this is that I’m pretty sure the Obama groupies will still be out in force proclaiming allegiance to their “messiah”. I am starting to wonder how much time will pass before those of us who disagree with “The Administration” will mysteriously disappear into the night.

I wonder whether the higher ups in the IRS gave the orders to the agents in the field at one of their lavish multi million dollar retreats, replete with 3400 valued hotel rooms for agents? Barf.

Even worse: the agents probably knew that’s what they were there to do and didn’t need to be ordered. Remember the state tax person who worked over Joe the Plumber? Was that person ordered by anybody to do that? Doctrinaire liberal footsoldiers don’t need marching orders. They come pre-programmed.

In that case, what if we were to switch to another carrier than verizon? Would those companies monitor us as well?

  7. JKnott says:

This has been a Gestapo administration from the beginning, on ALL fronts, strategically organized and deadly, for the purpose of destroying America as we knew it. But we have the Faith of the Saints and they are a glorious consolation. St Therese said she would like to be living in days such as these. It is hard, but we have to pray for these Godless tyrants.

  8. torch621 says:

Like others have said, the sad thing is that loyal Democrats will still vote Democrat, bending like pretzels to defend their vote all the way (sound familiar?).

  9. Ganganelli says:

Very sad and one of many cases – drones, not closing Gitmo – where the President has carried on the policies of the Bush administration. How much stronger would the Catholic witness be – IF – the catholic “right” had stood up for those brave congressmen(mostly Democrats) who were against the Patriot Act and FISA?

  10. Supertradmum says:

Anita, right on both comments. A tax revolt would be a good thing but we have lost the stomach for demonstrations. Apathy reigns. Except for the French, Europeans as well have caved in to accepting tyranny.

  11. ckdexterhaven says:

Lois Lerner has a history of persecuting Christians. Prior to her stint at the IRS, she was at the Federal Election Commission. She was investigating Oliver North’s association with Pat Robertson. At the link, there is a transcript of the interrogation North received, asking about specifics about the content of the prayers.
    http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/irss-lerner-had-history-harassment-inappropriate-religious-inquiries-fec_725004.html?nopager=1
“FEC attorneys continued their intrusion into religious activities by prying into what occurs at Coalition staff prayer meetings, and even who attends the prayer meetings held at the Coalition. This line of questioning was pursued several times. Deponents were also asked to explain what the positions of “intercessory prayer” and “prayer warrior” entailed, what churches speci?c people belonged, and the church and its location at which a deponent met Dr. Reed.”

Barack Obama has yet to fire Lois Lerner, they are on paid vacation…oops, I mean Administrative Leave.

I am not the first to make the comparison between President Obama and King Henry II when King Henry II said, “Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?” The King’s men knew exactly what to do with St. Thomas Becket.

And, so it goes with the Tea Party. The President made his contempt for the Tea Party quite clear, even sometimes referring to them as “tea baggers.”

  13. JonPatrick says:

gambletrainman, it sounds like all the cell phone companies are being monitored. Verizon was only the one they specifically found out about.

A flat tax or one with 2 or 3 progressive levels would help cut back the opportunity for the government to play favorites, would also remove the artificial distortions to the economy when the government picks winners. What may also be needed is taking the IRS out from under the executive branch and making it independent like the Federal Reserve, to limit political interference.

  14. ndmom says:

The LEAST complicated part of the Internal Revenue Code is the rate schedules. Legislation that replaced the current progressive rates with a flat tax, or with fewer tax brackets, would have no effect on the real source of complexity, which is the definition of “income.” And abolishing the IRS would serve no purpose either, as some other government entity would be tasked with the job of assessing and collecting taxes.

The federal income tax code is complicated because our economic lives are complicated. But keep in mind that the tax code is a creature of Congress. The IRS doesn’t write tax legislation. Members of the Congress want to be re-elected, and one way of doing so is to hand out tax benefits to important voting groups. So long as homeowners, working parents, senior citizens, small-business owners, oil companies, utilities, charities, the disabled, veterans, unions — all of us, actually — insist on protecting our sacred deductions/credits/exemptions, we will have a complicated tax code administered by a bloated bureaucracy.

Dear Americans, we Europeans have seen it before -Stasi, KGB and Securitate. Not easy to get rid of.

  16. cl00bie says:

    Fr. Z,

I believe the President has his “domestic security force”. It’s called the DHS. They have been buying up billions of rounds of hollowpoint ammunition (a violation of the Geneva convention) causing ammo shortages preventing normal citizens from being able to practice. What do you imagine they’re planning to use that on? Luckily, I previously purchased reloading equipment, including bullet casting, and I have about 150 pounds of lead ingots stored up.
