Italian address “de novissimis”

For those of you who read Italian, there is a good piece on the Four Last Things by French Bishop Jean-Pierre Batut, auxiliary of Lyon, on the site of Chiamati al cielo from the Diocese of Bergamo.

  1. Fr. John says:

Very good article, but I would question this statement:

The descent into the Inferi was a journey into the limbus patrum, who (a) died in the state of grace but (b) could not enter heaven since the “gates of heaven” had not yet been opened, and so they awaited the death of the Messiah. I have never before heard the limbus patrum identified with the purgatory of Christians. Anyone have insight on this?
