Huh. Never noticed the ads Father. I wonder if it is because I use Firefox with the Ad Blocker [download AdBlock Plus]. It gets rid of all kinds of nuisances.
It would be awesome to be able to join you online praying e.g. the laudes or vesper. I hope the cam (+ a microphone) can be used for that (sooner or later).
Tina: I am glad that you have a solution. I don’t think everyone does.
Like Tina, I use Firefox with Adblock Plus. And I, too, have never seen an ad with Ustream.
Oops — hit “Submit” too fast. I was going to add that my setup had caused me different problems with Ustream, though. Adblock Plus offers you the option of subscribing to various providers of blocking strings. I’d done that when I installed the latest upgrade and subsequently forgot about it… and then when Fr Z’s webcam moved to Ustream I couldn’t actually see anything at all. It turned out that “Cedric’s List” of blocking strings was preventing Ustream from running. I unsubscribed from the list and all was well (Adblock Plus on its own has no issues whatsoever with Ustream. But if Ustream is channelling Google ads, I can see why Cedric’s List might choose to block it).
I just checked ustream and I saw no ads of any kind. I use Firefox but as far as I know I do not have adblock plus. Just the basic adblocker which is built in. It seems to work pretty well. Sorry, can’t suggest an alternative. I’m not up on the latest technology.
I have never seen any ads on the video feed either. I’m using Camino browser on a Mac. It does have the option in preferences to block web advertising and popups and that is enabled.
Well, having clicked around a bit, I DO see that if I end up watching the cam on the Ustream website, there are ads but there is also a box to X them off. I never watched the cam from that page before though and it is much nicer to watch from within the WDTPRS pages.
I agree with Johan, Vespers with Fr. at his chapel would be excellent. What do you think Fr.?

Unless I have missed something (and I do all the time), is there a schedule of Mass times or other liturgical or devotional services via ustream (or other transmission) posted somewhere? If I knew when the TLM was to be celebrated, I would tune in.
There was a 1950 move starring James Whitmore and Nancy(Davis)Reagan titled “The Next Voice You Hear” about God coming over the radio one night and announcing “This is God speaking. I will be with you the next few days.” and everyone’s reaction.

Google Ads seems to be frustrating everyone. There were plenty of liberal people upset because they got ads in favor of Proposition 8 (and most of them didn’t live anywhere near California, btw); but on the other hand, pretty much every religious blog seems to have gotten the odd anti-Catholic or p*rn advertising.
Google’s algorithms for ad placement are obviously not working well.

So… is that live? Am I watching you sit at your computer? That makes me feel kinda… creepy. I’m not saying you’re creepy – just that I feel funny watching you. I don’t feel funny about watching the bird, though.
I hope you don’t forget and pick your nose or anything. I wouldn’t trust myself in front of a web cam like that. Heaven knows what I might do if I forget myself.

When I check the ustream page, I can see the web camera box on the left, and a box on the right with ‘ads by Google’. I cannot see any way of accessing the chat room. Does one need to be a registered user of ustream?
I have a web filter, I hope that is not blocking it.

That was awesome to be able to watch a Mass live from the other side of the Atlantic. I had no idea at what time you celebrated it but happened to go to the site shortly after 3pm here in GB. I turned the sound off as there was a secular Christmas song being played at the time and watched in silence. Thank you Fr Z.
