LENTCAzT 2020: 13 – Monday in the 2nd Week of Lent: Scale that mountain, then go back down

It’s Monday in the 2nd Week of Lent.

The Roman Station is the amazing San Clemente.

Today we hear the last Angelus address given by Benedict XVI. It was the 2nd Sunday of Lent. He talks about climbing the mountain of prayer, but then going back down into action. We hear also from the beautiful nuns of Gower Abbey.  [US HERE – UK HERE].

Thank you Father, for the meditation from Pope Benedict.

I remember you posted a fascinating description of the San Clemente basilica, going down into its subterranean levels, some time ago. If I ever get back to Rome, a visit to san Clemente will definitely be on my must-see list.

San Clemente truly is amazing. My archaeology professor, an Irish Dominican who lived at San Clemente, took us on a tour of some of current work. I saw a lot of dirt and if I remember correctly, two very small digging utensils. Then I understood that the conclusions of archaeology are interesting, but the process is not.

Also saw Mozart’s Don Giovanni performed in the cortile one evening.

By the way the tomb of Saints Cyril and Methodius is in San Clemente. The Soviet Embassy paid no attention on their feast day. After Gorbachev took over, a representative from the embassy would arrive every year to put flowers at the tomb
