LENTCAzT 2021: 19 – 3rd Sunday of Lent: Basilicas and Aquinas

For Lent I offer daily 5 minute podcasts.  They are intended to give you a small boost every day, a little encouragement in your own use of this holy season.  The Roman Station today is San Lawrence outside the Walls.

Today is 3rd Sunday of Lent. Plan to GO TO CONFESSION!

We hear about the Patriarchal (Papal) Basilicas of Rome and the ancients sees with which they are associated.   Card. Bacci gives an insight into St. Thomas Aquinas.

I provide these especially in gratitude to benefactors who help me and this blog.

    Fr Z.
I watched you say Mass today, Sunday 7 March.
You said we have the sacraments to help us.
What do we do when we have NO access to the sacraments?

We live in the south of Chile where the bishop(s) are afraid of the virus. SO they have locked the doors of the Catholic Churches since March of 2020.

At home with me are my wife and our youngest son. We bought him a cassok and surplus and had it shipped from the USA in the fall of 2019, to help serve the Mass here. Only the N.O. is available for the south of Chile and you can not buy these vestments for young men or boys in Chile. I am not sure he will fit in it now! He has not had the chance for going on our second year.

If we do not have The Mass.
If we do not have confession.
If we do not have reception of the blessed sacrament.
    Then what do we do?
The local Mennonite church is open. So are the Jehovah witnesses, as well as other churches. Should we attend there now? It just does not seem right to not go to Mass.
I believe Jesus said Peter Feed MY SHEEP! It seems that the bishops of Chile did not read that part? What do we do? We can not move. We love our home.
What do we do? When will the bishops open the churches?

[I’m really sorry about your situation down there. Your frustration level must be terrible. Do your best with what you do have. Perhaps private appointments for confessions and getting things blessed is an option.]

  4. Jim Dorchak says:

    Fr Z
We had Fr. Morey from SC send us some blessed salt and holy water and candles. He is an Exorcist and has blessed the things in the old rite.

We are trying to keep our hearts hopeful.
It just astounds me that the bishops will not be BISHOPS.

Confessions are not possible and they are not available or offered. The SSPX is over 12 hours north and they have only once been able to come to our house since last March. We had good confessions and low Mass. It was beautiful. Even after a year our 13 year old still remembered his prayers at Mass. Oh how we miss the Mass. Open and free to love know and worship Christ.

I guess we are in the end times.
Thank you for your Mass and your support. It is a great blessing.

  5. Mariana2 says:

    Thanks, Father!

I’m happy to report my mouse mat has a picture of St. Thomas Aquinas.
