LENTCAzT 2021: 27 – Monday 4th Week of Lent: Many think that it is easier to command than to obey

For Lent I offer daily 5 minute podcasts.  They are intended to give you a small boost every day, a little encouragement in your own use of this holy season.  The Roman Station today is Santi Quatro Coronati.

Today is Monday in the 4th Week of Lent. Plan to GO TO CONFESSION!

Card. Bacci on obedience.  The Benedictines of Gower sing.

I provide these especially in gratitude to benefactors who help me and this blog.

    Thank you Fr. Z.

The Death Party political religion has infiltrated the U.S. military, it has been ongoing for many years. The U.S. military could learn a thing or two from Cardinal Bacci about leadership and obedience.

Last week the official social media account of the II MEF Information Group, and numerous other U.S. military official accounts, propagandized against an American journalist who pointed out flaws with U.S. military preparedness.

If one looks at the official account of the II MEF Information Group commander, one Brian Russell, who identifies as a Colonel USMC, it is easy to see why his unit went astray. Those “Marines” took an oath before God to defend the Constitution, which includes the First Amendment, and which does not include whining on official Twitter accounts when critics exercise their right as concerned Americans to point to problems regarding military preparedness.

Here’s another example: Michael Grinston, who identifies as the Sergeant Major of the Army. When Ben Lemon, who identifies as a Command Sergeant Major tweeted:

“To be clear, this isn’t a political stance!
came after MY FAMILY!! Women in the military are MY SISTERS! I DEFEND MY FAMILY! Defend—another doctrinal term!”

    Grinston replied:

“Important distinction. The message is wrong regardless of the messenger. Thanks CSM for making that clear.”

Here’s a distinction for Grinston. The military is not a family, a tribe or a street gang. It is a professional organization that exists for fighting and winning wars. The more prepared and professional the U.S. military is, the more aware the U.S. military is aware of its weaknesses and can thus address those weaknesses, the greater the chance of peace prevailing.

Women certainly have vital roles in the U.S. military, their service is vital to mission accomplishment. However, several years ago the Marine Corps itself released a study that clearly showed all-male combat units (the military also has many units other than front-line combat units) were far superior in performance compared to male-female combat units. At the moment, military physical fitness requirements are being examined in light of the obvious physical differences between males and females. That could be a positive development by the U.S. military.

Last week Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby stated, “The U.S. military is the greatest the world has ever seen because of its diversity.” That statement is false, that statement is merely an article of faith of the Death Party political religion. Success on the battlefield and lower casualties results from Mission Accomplishment and Personal Sacrifice. (Sacrifice in military service includes recognizing that you may not be qualified physically or mentally for the military job you want).

Cardinal Bacci had something to say about “secondary motives” regarding commanding and obedience that merely “please men” and “avoid punishment.”

For God and Country, for military preparedness and for the cause of peace, get your priorities straight U.S. military: lead with professionalism and personal sacrifice now, before learning the hard way on the battlefield.

  4. Semper Gumby says:

    Fulton Sheen:

“All the psychological, social, and other advantages that were peculiar to women were ignored until the inanities of the world reached their climax in Communism, where a woman was emancipated the moment she went to work in a mine. The result has been that woman’s imitation of man and her flight from motherhood have developed neuroses and psychoses that have reached alarming proportions.”

The U.S. military- more specifically the disciplined, skilled, mature and virtuous men and women who serve in the military- is an institution vital to national security. There is, however, an institution even more important: the family. Mothers and Fathers raising children in the Virtues and with knowledge of and respect for the heritage of their country, in other words as citizens, produces the young men and women, and ultimately the senior leaders, who serve God and Country and are not easily swayed by every toxic pop-culture windstorm or utopian fantasy dreamed up by deviant politicians.

“The Lord gives strength to His people, the Lord blesses His people with peace.”

  5. Semper Gumby says:

    A classic post and painting.

“The following prayer was composed by John Carroll, Archbishop of Baltimore, in 1791…John was a cousin of Charles Carroll of Maryland, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.”

God bless Sister Deirdre Byrne, U.S. Army and Little Workers of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.

God bless Fr. Vincent Capodanno, USN, MOH. Semper Fidelis.

  6. Semper Gumby says:

    – Before one commands, one should learn the importance of obedience, self-control and the danger of overweening pride.

    – There are lawful orders and there are unlawful orders. There is propriety and there is arrogance.

    – A cautionary tale: the 1981 movie “Southern Comfort” featuring a problematic National Guard unit.

  7. Semper Gumby says:

    – Yesterday a “Congressman,” Michael San Nicolas of Guam currently under an Ethics Committee investigation for several reasons, executed a partisan Thunder Run through the halls of Congress with National Guard troops. That is not leadership, that is tyranny.

    – The so-called “President” rules by Executive Order, while dozens of members of the Death Party are considering removing nuclear command authority from this so-called “Commander-in-Chief.” The so-called “Vice-President” began her political career as a sex worker under Willie Brown, and is a confirmed domestic terrorist. That is not leadership, that is tyranny.

    – A significant element of the civilian and military “leadership” within the Department of Defense continue to signal they are in a state of hostilities- a “Low-Intensity Conflict”- against the United States and its citizens.

“Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God.”

  8. Semper Gumby says:

Here’s the defense by Adm. Michael Gilday, Chief of Naval Operations, of his inclusion of a racist, anti-American book, Ibram X. Kendi’s “How to Be an Antiracist,” on the Navy’s Professional Reading List:

“It evokes the author’s own personal journey in understanding barriers to true inclusion, the deep nuances of racism and racial inequalities.”

“While I do not endorse every viewpoint of the books on this reading list, I believe exposure to varied ideas improves the critical thinking skills of our sailors,” Gilday wrote.”

Well, there’s a saying in the military: Good initiative, Poor judgement.

Kendi’s book opens the door, not to critical thinking or deep nuances, but to a faculty lounge reeking of acrimony, hashish and Marxist flatulence.

A few reading suggestions worthy of our intrepid Fleet:

Condoleezza Rice- No Higher Honor: A Memoir of My Years in Washington; Extraordinary, Ordinary People: A Memoir of Family

Thomas Sowell- Black Rednecks and White Liberals

Clarence Thomas- My Grandfather’s Son: A Memoir

    [Justice Thomas. ‘RAH]

  9. Semper Gumby says:

    1. Knowledge of and respect for our military heritage is deteriorating. Two indicators:

The Marxist BLM and Antifa insurrection last year also damaged military heritage statues such as those honoring the 54th Massachusetts, the WW II Memorial and Gen. Casimir Pulaski.

    Stars and Stripes recently reported:

“Keeping the Buffalo & Erie County Naval & Military Park from going under during the pandemic has been hard enough without also having to worry about keeping one of its star attractions afloat.

“After losing 87% of its revenue because of COVID-19 closures and cancellations during the past year, the park recently discovered the destroyer USS The Sullivans taking on water and listing at its dock in Buffalo’s inner harbor.

“The 78-year-old decommissioned vessel is named in honor of the five Sullivan brothers from Waterloo, Iowa, who were killed in action when the USS Juneau was sunk by the Japanese in the South Pacific during World War II.

“Their mother, Alleta Sullivan, christened the ship, which saw action in World War II, the Korean War, and the Cold War. It’s now a National Historic Landmark.”

    2. The Obama administration had a negative effect on the military, from the policies of the malicious Leftist Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus to the Benghazi stand-down orders and attempted cover-up.

    3. Helen Roy writing at the American Mind:

    The Globular Girlboss G.I.
Feminization of the military points to a deeper spiritual problem

“Maternity flight suits are symptoms of the spiritually suicidal state. We are a nation of womanly men, mannish women, and disposable children. Those three have everything to do with one another. The culture of death marches on.”

  10. Semper Gumby says:

Another factor regarding maternity flight suits is stress and miscarriages.

A cautionary tale of an overzealous FBI:

A further point regarding leadership and the intent behind that leadership: compare the number of FBI agents dispatched to arrest Roger Stone and the number of SEALs on the ground raiding UBLs compound.

  11. Semper Gumby says:

Leadership without First Principles is tyranny. The serious problem today with many senior officers and enlisted is not ego- focusing on ego vastly oversimplifies the current problem and may in fact be a form of cowardice- but their traitorous loyalty to the Death Party political religion.

    Two examples:

    – An overweight Air Force major general in charge of recruiting, Ed Thomas, whines that there are too many white male pilots.

    – The Special Operations Command now has a “Chief of Diversity and Inclusion,” one Richard Torres-Estrada. Among his numerous public displays of zealotry for the Death Party political religion is equating the legitimately elected President Trump holding a bible at the Leftist mob-damaged Church of the Presidents to Adolf Hitler.

    Tucker Carlson yesterday:

This will probably not end well, domestic or foreign. Furthermore, appeasing the pro-Marxist, racist, anti-Semitic, anti-Christian, anti-child and anti-Constitution Death Party is merely collaboration. Choose wisely.
