Future womanpriest ‘Father Anne’ blames God for leading her towards ordination
When asked why she has chosen to be ordained as a Roman Catholic priest [Note how the false premise (that a woman can be ordained to any order of Holy Orders) is simply accepted by the Fishwrap writer?] — thus breaking the Catholic Church’s ban on the ordination of women and crossing the threshold of formal excommunication — Anne Tropeano’s response is simple. [As opposed to informal?]
“God is asking me to do this,” she says. “God is calling me to be ordained in the Roman Catholic tradition and to work for justice.” [Maybe.. just maybe… it’s just you and not God. What she does understand is that “vocation” actually happens during the ordination when your name is called by someone with authority to do so.]
Tropeano, whose use of the moniker “Father Anne” has helped attract wide coverage of her coming Oct. 16 ordination ceremony from various secular media outlets, including The New Yorker magazine, portrays her choice as part of a long spiritual journey. [Not all journey’s are good journey’s. There are, in fact, “bad trips”.]
Though she received the sacraments as a child, Tropeano was not raised in the church and did not begin to practice the faith until her late 20s, when she went through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. [Wait for it…]
“I moved to Portland with a band I was managing, and it was there, while attending a Jesuit parish, that the call emerged,” Tropeano said in a recent NCR interview. “The Jesuits took me under their wing. [DING DING… Say the magic word…] I began to pray, do retreats and become active in the parish community.”
The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius “changed me profoundly and forever,” said Tropeano, whose ordination is being organized by the Association of Roman Catholic [Not] Womenpriests.
Part of a movement that began in 2002 with the [non] ordination of seven women by a Catholic bishop in a clandestine ceremony on the Danube River, the association is one of two such groups of women claiming apostolic succession. They say there are now [not] some 250 ordained women worldwide.
The official [yawn] Catholic Church disputes their claims. In his 1994 apostolic letter Ordinatio Sacerdotalis, Pope John Paul II said, “the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women.” Pope Francis further codified the church’s stance this June, updating canon law to reflect a 2007 decree that women who are ordained be automatically excommunicated.
Tropeano’s ordination is scheduled to occur at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John in Albuquerque, New Mexico. [What an insulting middle-finger to the Church. Let’s see of the local Archbishop reacts to this astonishing insult.]
She portrayed the Jesuits’ influence on her as fundamental. [Funda – mental]
“They taught me to pray,” she said. [Pray to….?] “That was when I heard a call — not just to be a priest, but specifically a Jesuit priest. [Wow.] How could God be calling me to do something impossible?”
Tropeano began doing pastoral ministry, but that was not enough to satisfy her call. At age 40 she began studies at the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, California, which is now part of Santa Clara University.

Jesuits are among the most visible of discrimination against women in the entire Church!
It would be a matter of social justice, diversity, accompaniment, discernment and even “walking together” for the Jesuits to embrace this “ordination”, participate in it, and get some Jesuit bishop to do the ordination at the Episcopal cathedral for the sake of ecumenism… among… non-Catholics!
We demand – Pachamama demands – that the Jesuits put to right all these centuries of discrimination!

Why should she stop at becoming a priest? While she’s play-acting, why not just declare herself a bishop? Maybe she could appoint herself the Prefect of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura! Heck, why not Pope?!! And why would she need someone else to confer holy orders upon her? How hierarchical and un-egalitarian! I think she’s probably internalized the oppression of the patriarchy and is aiming too low by settling for the priesthood. Plus, gender is just a concept. So, is it really even a big deal if someone who just happens to identify as a woman(despite also, quite arbitrarily, having female genitalia) decides to become a priest? And didn’t the German episcopate just wonder aloud whether priests are even relevant anymore?
I’m in the Portland archdiocese. I wonder which parish she was at…I can think of only one official Jesuit parish in Portland off the top of my head. I’ve never been there…we prefer the Dominican parish.

Given today’s heretical climate at the Vatican, I can totally picture a scenario in which Francis would specifically personally intervene to defend and even exalt the Fishwrap, reversing any bishop’s orders to remove the word “Catholic” from that publication’s title.
On the other hand, EWTN is “the work of the devil.”

This is vintage form, Father. If nothing else, we can at least be grateful that this debacle has brought some truly “fisk-worthy” material to your attention!
Speaking as one who (inexplicably) continues to be an Anglican, I’m saddened and embarrassed by this flagrant discourtesy on the part of the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande. I suppose they’ll excuse themselves by claiming that they’re just responding to “the Spirit’s call to prophetic social-justice-making.”
As one old Anglican observed, “It seems to me that this new Holy Spirit is doing things the Holy Ghost would never have done.”
The way NCR reports on matters that they know would get them in trouble is sooooo matter of fact, presented without comment. Which is odd since they seem to love commenting on everything else. Cf. Horan’s latest.
At the very minimum Archbishop Wester should declare this individual has by her actions excommunicated herself from the Church and declare that he is the sole confessor for her sin and to demand a public repentance and rejection of the premises of her illicit “ordination.” I would also recommend that he revoke any facilities for any Jesuit in his archdiocese.
Finally he should commend the Episcopal ecclesial community for performing such sacrilege and announce that any further “ecumenical” activities, of any type or kind with this Episcopal ecclesial community until there is a public repudiation of such action.

Also per Wikipedia (for what it is worth), Wester has been involved with the USCCB as a member of the Bishops Committee on Vocations, Chairman of Northern California Ch’an/Zen-Catholic Dialogue, Consultant for the Subcommittee on Interreligious Dialogue, member of the Migration Committee, the Pastoral Practices Committee, World Mission Committee, the Subcommittee on Lay Ministry, and as the USCCB bishop-liaison to Asia.

Actually, Archbishop Wester has done something as he is on a list of worst bishops in the USA. From Lifesitenews.com,

Well maybe Absp John Wester thought twice or prayed about not lending the SantaFe Cathedral for this Jesuit extravaganza. In 2018 he assisted and supported a dissident Assoc of US Catholic Priests. This Assoc is pushing/was pushing for the ordination of women & gay men.

Francis doesn’t believe that women can be priests. If he were to listen to this Sd. Anne person (Sd. is the abbreviation for “stupid”), he would hear all he needs to hear to realize that the jesuit liberalism (or is that liberal jesuitism) is all wrong. For, Sd. Anne is just spouting the natural fruition of what they have been teaching all along. If the any papabile were in the wings who would listen attentively, the jesuits would be rushing to shut her up, because the first step such a new pope would be to suppress the jesuits altogether. Now THAT’S a suppression we could get behind.
The antidote to this silly liberal jesuitism is, of course, orthodoxy – what the Church has ALWAYS taught, and still teaches (because the old teachers still teach us): Although God speaks to us in our hearts, we sinners can mis-hear Him. The Bible is a hard and fast, written down measure of whether you have heard God correctly, or if you misheard him, because God does not contradict himself. If you think God told you X, and it turns out that X is contrary to the Bible, then no, God didn’t tell you X. You misheard Him. You need to clean out your (spiritual) ears, tune them up by listening to the Bible and to the Fathers and Doctors and the Magisterium, and then listen again. Lather, rinse, repeat, until what you “hear” God say is consistent with what the Bible and the Church say.
I know a few Jesuits who would rightly be appalled. It seems like everywhere else , the idiots get the headlines.
As to the tambourines, maybe she should have papier-mache puppets acting out the Gospel. Perhaps some liturgical dance numbers?

The only priests named ‘Anne’ which the English Wikipedia article, “Anne”, lists in the section “As a masculine name” are Cardinal Bishop Anne d’Escars de Givry and Cardinal Archbishop Anne Louis Henri de La Fare, while the French Wikipedia article adds Jean-Louis-Anne-Magdeleine Lefebvre de Cheverus, Bishop of Boston from 1808 until 1823 before eventually becoming Cardinal Bishop of Bordeaux – all presumably named after St. Anne (as well as listing the High Priest). Both have King Anna of East Anglia (all of whose children were canonized – according to his Wikipedia articles), but I expect there are any number of other Anglo-Saxon, Frisian, and Dutch priests with this ‘Germanic’ first name.

Her “diaconal ordination” was an especially shabby affair even for the women’s ordination crowd.
It took place in the breakfast room of some chain hotel, with only three others present, and the “communion service” was essentially the four of them sitting at the table looking like a coffee klatsch at Tim Horton’s.
The Mickey and Minnie Mouse water bottle under the chairs was a fitting touch to the sad event.
Years ago I heard a homily on the Real Presence by a good priest.
This priest mentioned that when he was in seminary (1970s) there were teachers at the Jesuit School of “Bezerkly” that were trying to undermine the Real Presence, saying things like we don’t see cells in the host under the microscope.
Another good priest mentioned that during his seminary days (1970s, possibly early 1980s) Masses were being done on coffee tables and occasionally MD 2020 was wine and store brought bread was sometimes used. Every now and then this reminds me of some of the Masses I attended at a college during the mid 1980s.
As a man who lives in the South I hold respect for my Baptist brethren and friends who like good Catholics uphold traditional marriage, sanctity of life, and Baptist ministers are male.

One cannot “ban” something which never existed. The true meaning of the word “ban” implies that whatever was banned either exists or once existed. It seems the author would like us to somehow be under the impression that the ordination of women to the ministerial priesthood once existed in our Church. It didn’t !
Saying that in the Catholic Church the ordination of women is “banned” makes about as much sense as saying that the fourth [not]person of the Holy Trinity is “banned.”
