  2. Ms. M-S says:

By no means joy but rather a loop of sterile materialism. Thanks, Father Z!

  3. VForr says:

Thank you, Father. Today’s The Catholic Thing column discusses joy as well. I am sensing a theme…

  4. Mariana2 says:

    Thanks, Father!

  5. Semper Gumby says:

    Thanks Fr. Z.

From the St. Augustine, Confessions, Book X quote above: “How often, when people are narrating idle tales, do we begin by tolerating them, lest we should give offense unto the weak; and then gradually we listen willingly.”

Good point by the august St. Augustine. Many with ears to hear today are not listening willingly to idle tales: “this maple syrup is racist” or “St. Paul was rigid” or “criticizing Biden is dangerous to democracy” or “a car plowed into a Christmas parade” or “math is racist.”

Fulton Sheen (who should be a Saint) on intolerance: “Architects are as intolerant about sand as foundations for skyscrapers as doctors are intolerant about germs in the laboratory. Tolerance does not apply to truth or principles.”

Good point. The Pachamama Vatican is building its foundations on sand and should be resisted, so should those doctors, politicians, religious leaders, teachers and journalists exploiting the Wuhan Virus to build Glorious Global Achtung-Papers-Please Paradise.

It’s another day in the vineyards of the Lord amongst the Lotus-eaters and Soy-drinkers, another opportunity to excel.

  6. Semper Gumby says:

“Joy is, indeed, by no means the dominant note of modern society.”

‘Tis true, Fr. Z. At high-end retailers across the land kerfuffles are flying off the shelves and walking out the doors.

Ms. M-S makes a reasonable point, wagging a finger at “materialism.” Though, washers and dryers, sewage plants and water treatment plants are spiffy.

It seems that more than materialism is going on. I forget the movie, but some ne’er do well turned to his partner in crime and explained the exploding cars, burning buildings and stampeding bystanders thusly, “We live in a world of constant change.”

Well, that’s rather thin. Surely human will has something to do with it.

Solzhenitsyn was on to something when he said “Men have forgotten God.” Close the church door, open the cluttered closet of Vanity backstage at the Moulin Rouge, and on with the motley.

Thus, Putin is troweling on the makeup and Transitioning from Uncle Vlad the Shirtless Bear Wrestler to some sort of Hitlerian homunculus with his “last territorial demand to make in Europe”; the Iranian mullahs think that enriching to bomb-grade would be a jolly improvisational lark on the world stage; the ChiComs are marching out of Makeup hopped up on ginseng tea and eager to perform simultaneously every last page of Sun-Tzu’s Art of War; and the Auschwitz Museum is Transitioning from Never Again to Let’s Do It Again, With Feeling, Against the Unvaccinated, Malignant Minority and Plague Rats.

Stat crux dum volvitur orbis. The Cross stands while the world turns.

  7. Semper Gumby says:

“Joy is, indeed, by no means the dominant note of modern society.”

The saying “History does not repeat, but it does rhyme” is attributed to Mark Twain.

On Dec. 14, 2019, the Auschwitz Museum made a good point on their Twitter account:

“When we look at Auschwitz, we see the end of a long process. Yet, if we reach to this stage of hatred it is far too late. Beware the beginnings.”

Let’s take a look at beginnings. Here is an excerpt from The Decree of the Reich President for the Protection of the People and the State (the “Reichstag Fire Decree”) of February 28, 1933, signed by German President Hindenburg and Chancellor Hitler, Article I:

“Sections 114, 115, 117, 118, 123, 124, and 153 of the Constitution of the German Reich are suspended until further notice. Therefore, restrictions on personal liberty, on the right of free expression of opinion, including freedom of the press, on the right of assembly and the right of association, and violations of the privacy of postal, telegraphic, and telephonic communications, warrants for house searches, orders for confiscations, as well as restrictions on property, are also permissible beyond the legal limits otherwise prescribed.”

Himmler then signed “protective custody” orders: “Based on Article 1 of the Decree of the Reich President for the Protection of the People and the State of February 28, 1933, you are taken into protective custody in the interests of public security and order. Reason: suspicion of activities inimical to the State.”

On April 8, 2021 the Auschwitz Museum approvingly tweeted: “MOTLorg honored [the controversial] Dr. Anthony Fauci with an award for “moral courage in medicine” on the eve of Yom HaShoah [the Holocaust].”

MOTL is “March of the Living,” an “Educational program studying the history of the Holocaust and examining the roots of prejudice, intolerance and hatred.”

James Lindsay on December 12, 2021 tweeted [in the context of thousands of worldwide news items such as: the Chinese Communists concealing Wuhan Virus information and welding people inside their apartments; forced custody and confinement in camps in Australia and elsewhere; political mandates for masking the populace often ignored by politicians; segregating in stores and even churches; house arrest; repeated death threats against and scapegoating of the unvaccinated including those religiously or medically exempt; suppression of information or disinformation on Ivermectin and Hydroxychloriquine; suppression of information on experimental vaccine efficacy and its side effects which include death; doctors fired for questioning official protocol or for saving lives with Ivermectin; media and social media forbidding or censoring certain discussion points; child abuse; well-documented mental health issues among children and teens caused by overzealous or unnecessary mandates; the seething rage and anti-social behavior of a significant element of the vaccinated that can best be described as cult-like; etc.]:

“History break! How 1940s Germany legally justified the creation and utilization of the Warsaw Ghetto: segregating people for “Public Health” and “Public Safety.”” [Two minute video attached.]

The Auschwitz Museum, contrary to the tone and intent of their previous communications, chose to respond (directly to James Lindsay), and with this:

“Exploiting the tragedy of Jews who were humiliated, marked with a yellow star, isolated, starved, dehumanized, and murdered in ghettos during the Holocaust in a debate about vaccination that saves human lives during pandemic is shameful. It’s a sad symptom of moral decay.”

History doesn’t repeat but it does rhyme- with the assistance of problematic ideologues such as the exploitative administrators of the Auschwitz Museum.

One more note. See the Nuremberg Doctor’s Trial.

  8. Semper Gumby says:

New Criterion, Hilton Kramer, March 1991, “The Assault on the Museums”:

The political thought police have now come to the American art museum. For some years they have been making their presence felt in the museum world in numerous ways, demanding – and usually getting – concessions and preferments in the name of gender, race, ethnicity, and the many other items that constitute the current agenda of multiculturalism, “diversity,” and politically correct ideas.

As for the enterprise that passes for “education” in most of our museums, this had largely become a scene of intellectual disgrace long before the political thought police arrived to transform it into a sanctuary for propaganda and indoctrination. In this area, it was often a case of politics filling an intellectual void.

We are talking about radical change – a virtual cultural revolution – in the kind of programs and staffing and fundamental values that determine the very nature of the art museum and its role in the life of culture and society.

  9. Semper Gumby says:

The Auschwitz Museum on their website and various social media accounts acknowledges the detentions and executions of clergy by National Socialists. Initially, Catholic clergy were transported to Auschwitz due to their status in Polish society, eventually joined by Protestant and Eastern Orthodox.

However, here is a sample of the Auschwitz Museum’s references to Pope Pius XII: “Pius XII stayed silent during the extermination of six million Jews in the Holocaust.”

The Director of the Auschwitz Museum, Piotr Cywinski, is a historian and a Catholic. He should take a professional interest in additional information. Pius XII: assisted and supported efforts that saved almost one million European Jews; supported espionage and assassination plots against Hitler; the Chief Rabbi of Rome, Dr. Israel Zolli, and his wife converted to the Catholic Church in 1945; Golda Meir, Albert Einstein, Leonard Bernstein and others praised and thanked Pius XII; in 1955 the Israeli Philharmonic Orchestra traveled to Rome to honor Pius XII with a concert.

For additional details see “The Myth of Hitler’s Pope: How Pope Pius XII Rescued Jews from the Nazis” by Rabbi David Dalin.

The pernicious lies against Pope Pius XII originated, according to Rabbi Dalin, in 1963:

“The campaign of vilification against Pope Pius can be traced to the debut in Berlin in February 1963 of a play, by a young, Protestant, left-wing West German writer and playwright, Rolf Hochhuth. “The Deputy,” in which Hochhuth depicts Pacelli as a Nazi collaborator, guilty of moral cowardice and “silence” in the face of the Nazi onslaught, is a scathing indictment of Pope Pius XII’s alleged indifferences to the plight of European Jewry during the Holocaust. Hochhuth’s play ignited a public controversy about Pius XII that continues this day. Despite the fact that The Deputy was purely fictional.”

See also the KGB disinformation campaign against Pius XII and the Catholic Church generally: “Operation Seat 12.”

Dr. Piotr Cywinski, as a historian and Museum Director should take a professional interest in another aspect of Holocaust history as detailed in “Nazis, Islamists, and the Making of the Modern Middle East” by Barry Rubin. See particularly: the relevance to the Auschwitz Museum of the Turkish genocide of the Armenians (see for example the German diplomat Max von Oppenheim); Nazi official Adolf Eichmann’s 1937 visit to the Middle East to meet Mufti Haj Amin al Husseini; the Mufti’s visits to Nazi Germany to meet Eichmann and Adolf Hitler (prior to the Wannsee Conference, and there are photos); the Mufti’s visits to concentration camps, including Auschwitz, and Muslim SS units.

A more accurate testimony and a wider context enables the Auschwitz Museum to achieve its mission of education. Never again, indeed.

  10. Semper Gumby says:

Additional information is available on the Auschwitz Museum website: Museum Director, EU Funds, Projects EU, Finances.

Frontpage Magazine, Daniel Greenfield, Dec. 6, 2021, “Under Left-Wing Gov, Yad Vashem Covers Up the Islamic Role in the Holocaust”:

“Netanyahu was going to appoint Effi Eitam, a truly great man, to head Yad Vashem, Israel’s national holocaust museum. Prime Minister Bennett [replaced Netanyahu as Prime Minister in June 2021] rewarded Dani Dayan [2007-2013 Chairman of the Yesha Council a West Bank Settlement advocacy group, Israel’s Counsel General in New York from 2016 until his appointment as Yad Vashem Director in August 2021] by appointing him instead. And Dayan is doing what he’s told. Some noted that Yad Vashem was **no longer displaying** a photo of Hitler and the Mufti of Jerusalem.”

“In a statement, Dayan claimed that, “Attempting to pressure Yad Vashem to expand [?] the exhibit on the Mufti in the Holocaust History Museum is tantamount to forcing Yad Vashem to partake in a debate on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which is alien to its mission.”

The Federalist, Jordan Boyd, Feb. 18, 2021, “Obama-Era Official Ben Rhodes Invokes Antisemitic Tropes in Anti-Israel Tirade”

Rhodes was appointed by Obama to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council.

  11. Semper Gumby says:

    – The European Union’s executive branch is the European Commission. The current President of the EC is Ursula von der Leyen, who earlier this month stated “it is time to discuss mandatory vaccination in Europe…a common approach.” Her husband is Heiko von der Leyen, Medical Director of the biotech company Orgenesis (“Unlocking the Potential of Cell and Gene Therapy for All”).

    – The United Nations website has this webpage: “Outreach Programme on the Holocaust.” The page includes: “Panel Discussion Holocaust Denial and Distortion…The panel discussion was moderated by Hala Gorani, anchor and correspondend [sic] for CNN International and was produced by CNN.” On the same page under Media Coverage is: “US witnessed “echoes of the Holocaust” during breach of the Capitol, says concentration camp survivor.” The link directs to another United Nations webpage where can be found the “Heartbreaking account” of “Dr. Irene Butter.”

    – The August 21, 2021 Trump Rally was characterized by many media outlets in many countries as a “superspreader event,” often accompanied by unflattering or mocking photos of the attendees.

    – Not confirmed, but it appears today Radio Genova reports that on a ferry in Italy police dragged away a man without a vaccine passport while some passengers shouted “throw him overboard.”

  12. Semper Gumby says:

Today the ideologues at the Auschwitz Museum are enjoying yesterday’s ruling by a Dutch court ordering politician Thierry Baudet to delete several tweets that drew comparisons between the present-day lockdowns, forced vaccinations and harassment to the treatment of Jews under the Third Reich.

The Auschwitz Museum scapegoats Baudet as an “anti-Semitic far-right politician.” The Museum staff are reminded of their own words: “Beware the beginnings.” They should also reflect on their lack of interest in the many comparisons of Pres. Bush and Pres. Trump to Hitler, musician Billy Joel wearing a yellow star on stage, the many anti-Semitic statements by Leftist politicians around the world and the many uses by the Left of the Third Reich and the Holocaust as a scapegoating tool.

The Auschwitz Museum is establishing itself not as an educational platform, but as another Leftist media outlet engaging in sentimental yet sinister agit-prop. The Museum staff should do better than associate itself with the Leftist Dutch groups who stated yesterday that the Dutch court “made an important contribution to indicating the limits of the public debate.”

That silencing should ring a bell, once again, with the administrators of the Museum.

A good book on this topic is Jonah Goldberg’s “Liberal Fascism,” which includes a thoughtful and well-researched chapter: Adolf Hitler: Man of the Left.

“Never again” should mean much more than a hollow, partisan and sanctimonious catchphrase- otherwise the Jews, Christians, Romani and many others murdered by National Socialism would have died in vain.

  13. Semper Gumby says:

The employees at the Auschwitz Museum are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Uyghur concentration camps, Darfur, the Khmer Rouge and the Gulag.

  14. Semper Gumby says:

    – Washington Post, Waitman Wade Beorn, July 16, 2018:

“It’s not wrong to compare Trump’s America to the Holocaust. Here’s why.”

    – Washington Post, Ann Telnaes, December 18, 2020:

    “All the Republican rats”

[political cartoon depicting, with names, many Republicans as rats- including Rep. Steve Scalise who survived an attack by a Leftist gunman.]

    – RAIR, Renee Nal, December 20, 2020:

“WaPo Channels Nazi Propaganda to Slander Republicans”

“Ann Telnaes, the Washington Post’s self-proclaimed “Nasty Woman Pulitzer prize winning editorial cartoonist,” produced a cartoon eerily similar to the one published in 1939 in the wake of the Anschluss…”

“The cartoon seeks to intimidate Republicans for following the process bestowed to Americans by the founding fathers to ensure fair elections.”

“A picture that’s truly worth a thousand words,” gushed Lawrence Tribe, Professor of Constitutional Law at Harvard. “Ann Telnes does it again,” praised leftist podcaster Amy Siskind. “They are attempting to sink the ‘Ship of State,” lamented actor Tim Matheson. Journalist Dave Keating wrongly and embarrassingly observed that the “rats” cartoon is an illustration of a “shockingly long list of the Republicans in high office who collaborated in the attempted coup in America.” Salon author Amanda Marcotte sneered: “Honestly, this is an insult to rats.” “Art Director” Chris Rukan at Washington Post Opinions experimented with his alliteration skills, gleefully tweeting that “really RATcheted up the RAT RATio in this RAT-tacular RAT-ravaganza.””

[In December 2015 Telnaes drew a cartoon depicting Sen. Ted Cruz (R) dressed in a Santa suit with his two young daughters as monkeys on leashes. The Washington Post printed the cartoon, eventually removing the cartoon from their website.]

ABC News, Benjamin Siegel, September 21, 2021:

“House Democrats remove money for Israel’s Iron Dome system [Defense against incoming missiles. Iran.] in funding bill: Progressives had threatened to tank the measure over the military support.”

“While lawmakers from both parties have supported Israel’s right to defend itself unconditionally for decades, a growing group of Democratic lawmakers have called on party leaders to revisit its relationship with Israel…”

    Auschwitz Museum:

    “Beware the beginnings.”

    – New York Times, Apoorva Mandavilli, June 2, 2021:

“Medical Journals Blind to Racism as Health Crisis, Critics Say”

    – Mercatornet, John Murawski, Dec. 16, 2021:

“Medical journals are pouring out hundreds of articles on race and racism: ‘The whole field is intellectually corrupt,’ says one critic.”

“A search for “health disparities” on the National Library of Medicine’s PubMed dot gov search page shows an exponential “hockey stick” trend in recent years, with articles through October already surpassing last year’s total of 10,719. By comparison, “ovarian cancer” yields 7,134 search results last year, while “aortic aneurysm” yields fewer than 4,000.”

    – Science Based Medicine, Steven Novella, Treating the Unvaccinated, Dec. 8, 2021:

“There is no judgement, no politics, and no blame. That is part of the professionalism of medicine; we do not judge our patients, we treat them. But as I said, this is in the context of normal medical care. There is also the context of crisis medical care, in which resources are limited.”

“Further, the decision not to get vaccinated may be complicated. A member of a racial minority may not trust the vaccine because of historical medical injustice. Would we not be compounding that injustice to deny care based on their reaction to prior injustice?”

“Education is the preferred method, but if that is not enough then applying a variety of carrots and sticks may be justified.”

    – Media Bias/Fact Check, “Science Based Medicine,” Nov. 24, 2021:

    “Bias Rating: PRO-SCIENCE”

    “Factual Reporting: VERY HIGH”

    “Traffic/Popularity: Medium Traffic”

“Overall, we rate Science-Based Medicine Pro-Science based on the use of scientific sources and support for the consensus of science. We also rate them Very-High for factual reporting due to scientific sourcing and a clean fact check record.”

“Founded in 2007, Science-Based Medicine is a website dedicated to evaluating medical treatments and products of interest to the public in a scientific light and promoting pro-science consensus-based information. Steve Novella, MD, a clinical neurologist at Yale University, is the founder and current editor. All editors are MDs.”

Harvard University Press, “Racial Hygiene: Medicine Under the Nazis” by Robert Proctor, HUP Catalog:

“Racial Hygiene focuses on how scientists themselves participated in the construction of Nazi racial policy. Robert Proctor demonstrates that the common picture of a passive scientific community coerced into cooperation with the Nazis fails to grasp the reality of what actually happened – namely, that many of the political initiatives of the Nazis arose from within the scientific community, and that medical scientists actively designed and administered key elements of National Socialist policy.”

Eugenics Archive, “Racial Hygiene and National Socialism”:

“The scientific and political movement of “racial hygiene” is on many levels linked to the development of Nazism and Fascism with their racist medical philosophies, the segregation and sterilization laws, as well as later the murderous Nazi euthanasia program. Largely conceived and popularized through the German physician and anthropologist Alfred Ploetz (1860-1940), the term “racial hygiene” (Rassenhygiene) was a special notion of eugenics in the German-speaking countries.”

“The German physician and anthropologist Alfred Ploetz had laid out major assumptions and definition of “racial hygiene” in his book, entitled “Foundations of a Eugenics, Part I, The Efficiency of Our Race and the Protection of the Defectives” (Grundlinien einer Rassenhygiene. Band I, Die Tuechtigkeit unserer Rasse und der Schutz der Schwachen) (1895).”

“While some direct exchanges existed at the beginning of the 1920s between the racial hygienists in their scientific or intellectual circles on the one hand and the early Nazi movement on the other hand, these were at first rather sporadic and depended on particular individuals, who belonged to parallel social groups.”

“Major changes occurred with the seizing of power through the Nazi party (1933), which also led to the enactment of the “Law for the Reestablishment of a Professional Civil Service” (Gesetz zur Wiederherstellung des Berufsbeamtentums) on April 7, 1933, and shortly after the establishment of the Nuremberg Laws (September 15, 1935).”

“At the same time, many of the larger-scale public health and scientific approaches (Gemeinschaftsaufgaben) received their funding from the German Research Council with specific Nazi prescriptions and directions, particularly when they required expensive investments such as in the fields of atomic physics, aviation engineering, modern experimental medicine, or public health and eugenic programs.”

“Transformed through the contemporary development of biomedical science, the Nazi euthanasia program (T4) [Aktion T4] reinterpreted Binding and Hoche’s dictum of “life not worth living” (1920) as a deliberate killing of the “unworthy” and “demented patients” in orphanages, care institutions, mental asylums, and psychiatric clinics.”

  16. Semper Gumby says:

    – The U.S. Holocaust Museum (USHM) is in Washington DC.

    – Christianity Today, Is Holocaust Museum Anti-Christian?, April 27, 1998:

“Six prominent Jews are accusing the U.S. Holocaust Museum of anti-Christian bias in showing a 14-minute film on the roots of anti-Semitism [the film is now also on the Museum’s website and YouTube]. The film alleges that Christian churches played a key role in promoting anti-Semitism, leading to Nazi Germany’s genocide of European Jewry during World War II. In a letter to the director of the Holocaust Museum, the group, led by Michael Horowitz of the Hudson Institute, wrote, “We believe that the film advances a profoundly inaccurate thesis: that Christianity and Christian leaders were the initial causes of anti-Semitism,” and that “the film repeats and propagates libels of Christianity.””

“Other signers are film critic Michael Medved, historian David Dalin [see above, author of “The Myth of Hitler’s Pope”], and Reagan administration official Elliot Abrams.”

    – One item among many: USHM’s “Holocaust Encyclopedia” has an entry for the White Rose resistance group- Catholic students inspired by the “Lion of Munster” Bishop Clemens von Galen, St. Augustine and John Henry Newman. The USHM’s brief entry refers to the White Rose only as “students,” “philosophy professor Kurt Huber guided the movement,” and the entry closes “…with the words of Kant’s disciple Johann Gottlieb Fichte…”

    – USHM, “Christianity and the Holocaust: Bibliography,” lists several reasonable books such as a biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer. There are no books by authors such as Rabbi David Dalin or Ronald Rychlak. Many books are problematic, such as James Carroll’s “Constantine’s Sword: The Church and the Jews: A History.” The USHM description of this book reads:

“Chronicles the two-thousand-year history of the Catholic Church’s battle against Judaism, which the author describes as “the central tragedy of Western civilization.” **Calls for a fundamental rethinking of the Christian faith.**”

    – Three recent USHM YouTube videos: “Power, Intoxication and Masculinity: Fueling the Nazi War Machine”; “Holocaust Survivors Who Built Fashion Careers”; “The Myth of the Perfect Mother.”

    – Jerusalem Post, March 10, 2019, “Anne Frank center compares Jews fleeing Nazis to Islamic State terrorists”:

“The Anne Frank Educational Center in the German city of Frankfurt is under intense fire for comparing Jews during the Holocaust with Islamic State terrorists in a series of tweets on Wednesday.

“The center appeared to object to a German government plan to strip German Islamic State fighters of their citizenship. The educational center wrote that “protests formed against the plan,” in connection with a reference to the Third Reich.”

“Germany banned the Islamic State as a terrorist organization. The federal republic, however, refused on Friday to outlaw the Lebanese organization Hezbollah, which calls for Israel’s destruction and is classified as a terrorist entity by the US, Canada, the Arab League and the United Kingdom.”

[This is not an isolated incident by the Frankfurt Anne Frank Center. The Anne Frank Fonds Basel provides funding to Leftist anti-Israel BDS groups.]

  17. Semper Gumby says:

    – Heritage Foundation, “Inclusion Delusion: The Antisemitism of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Staff at Universities,” Dec. 8, 2021:

“To measure antisemitism among university DEI staff, we searched the Twitter feeds of 741 DEI personnel at 65 universities to find their public communications regarding Israel and, for comparison purposes, China.”

“Of the tweets about Israel, 96 percent were critical of the Jewish state, while 62 percent of the tweets about China were favorable. There were more tweets narrowly referencing “apartheid” in Israel than tweets indicating anything favorable about Israel whatsoever.”

“Frequently accusing Israel of engaging in genocide, apartheid, settler colonialism, ethnic cleansing, and other extreme crimes while rarely leveling similar criticisms toward China indicates an irrational hatred that is particularly directed toward Jews and not merely a concern for human rights.”

    – The Holocaust Museums in Washington DC, Skokie IL, St. Petersburg FL, Los Angeles CA, Houston TX and St. Louis MO provide diversity training to police officers. The Auschwitz Museum in Poland also has the ability to train police officers in Europe.

    An opportunity presents itself.

The anti-Semitism of many, perhaps most, in Antifa and BLM- along with various Maoists, Marxists, Islamists, and anarchists- is well documented. Also well documented, in the U.S. and in Europe, is their nihilism, iconoclasm, street thuggery and political violence.

Thus, in the spirit of Tolerance and Education- the mission of Holocaust museums- the Holocaust museums in the U.S., Canada and Europe could offer sensitivity and awareness training to the aforementioned militant groups, the university professors and administrators noted in the Heritage Foundation study, medical doctors (two examples: Lara Kollab of Cleveland Clinic in 2018 who threatened to give Jews the “wrong meds”, and the University of Colorado School of Medicine anti-Semitism charges of 2020), politicians such as Rashida Tlaib, and Twitter employee Fadah Jassem (curates Middle East news but denied the existence of Israel).

It’s good to learn and work together for the greater good.

“The first detailed European guidelines to help public health decision-makers develop appropriate curricula for sexuality education have been issued.”

“Dr. Gunta Lazdane, Regional Adviser on Sexual and Reproductive Health at the Regional Office, who coordinated the development of the document, says: “The special feature of the new guidelines, above and beyond the topic, is that they stress that sexuality education should start from a child’s birth. They also indicate which specific skills children and young people should acquire, and which attitudes should be promoted at specific age periods.”

    – European Commission, “Sexuality Education Across the European Union: An Overview,” November 2020, produced for the European Platform for Investing in Children (EPIC):

    “Using sexuality education
as a guiding term (Box 1), this policy memo provides an
overview of the existing evidence and research in this area. The memo then draws on a variety of data-collection efforts to summarise the current state-of-play of school-based sexuality education in EU Member States, and gives an indication of the variety of practice that exists for
    policymakers, decision-makers and practitioners.”

[The following are not mentioned once in this 14-page document: Mother, Father, supportive sibling or friend, priest, pastor, rabbi. “Parents” occurs 7 times. “Abstinence” is mentioned once in a sidebar relating to Ireland and prevention of “STIs/HIV” but the document then recommends Ireland “adopt a more holistic approach.” A map indicates that “Sexuality Education” is mandatory at age 6 in Norway, France and Germany, Austria 10, Poland 12, and optional in Hungary 11, Spain 12, Italy 14.]

    – Sen. Cotton memo to Senate Armed Services Committee, June 10, 2021:

“13…I was deployed in Africa, in a combat zone. For part of my time there, I was on a naval installation. In the barracks area of the installation, a massive BLM flag had been hung from the third story of the barracks, draping over both the second and first rows under it. The flag was probably fifty feet long, by fifteen feet wide. In addition to this, there were many service members that were wearing BLM t-shirts that sported additional BLM slogans, doo rags, and hats, all with BLM plastered on them.” [A July 15, 2020 memo from the Secretary of Defense reinforced the appropriate display of appropriate flags (e.g. National, State, POW flags) for all personnel in the Department of Defense.]

“19…Our Enlisted Senior Leader at the time had approximately 25 to 30 enlisted personnel meet at an off-base location outside of uniform to discuss race in an open forum. When she gave her opinion, she became an advocate for the group “Black Lives Matter (BLM)” and told us that we all need to support this cause, because it is morally right.”

“20…Many struggle to connect on why we heavily condemned Jan 6 but refused to talk about the violent riots during the summer of 2020. Many had questions about groups like Antifa not being discussed during out [sic] Extremism presentation. While isolated incidents of racism/extremism may occur in our military the idea that our institutions are systemically racist and our number one military threat is extremism is not shared
    throughout my formation.”
