Reading the news lately has been like a cool refreshing sip of water.

I’ve been in the campo for this. Insane.

My two eldest sons (aged 11 and 9) are the acolytes for our local TLM “diocesan circuit” (two different churches, two different times, two Sundays a month only).

When they started it was… painful to watch sometimes, being very aware of their jitters and twitching on the altar (praying that the lopsided candle doesn’t spill wax everywhere). Now, after a year and longer of them serving, they are crisp and focused (and the MC is very patient with them).

But what serving gives them is a sense of duty, and they are eminently more focused and calmer in the rest of their life too. I put that down to the serving. Maybe, God willing, there is a priest(s) in training then.

Serving and the Mass gives focus, dedication and excellence in the rest of a boy’s life, not just on a Sunday. The future of the Church is on the shoulders of that generation. It is lovely to see.
