Annunciation Church in S. Minneapolis posts the confession schedule outside along with Mass times.  Kudos.

I love it when the parish posts confession times outside, so you don’t have to work at it. Also when the bulletin has on the front, or in a prominent and easy to find location. And same on the website, instead of being tucked behind 3 or 4 clicks, and you are only guessing that the intermediate pages will get you anywhere.

Finally, kudos to the pastor for making times available in addition to Saturday afternoon. You would think that by now, pastors would have had this fact drilled into them by a hundred thousand voices: people’s lives and schedules are too variable to predict that everyone who wants confession can do it Saturday afternoon. Give them at least one other option. In fact: be thoughtful about this, and coordinate with the 7 parishes around you so that almost EVERY day has one parish or another with confessions on that day. Throw in a morning slot (before or after morning mass), even if only for 30 minutes.

Of course, this would presume the priests believe in sin and the efficacy of the sacrament in restoring a person to a state of grace. And belief in sanctifying grace to begin with. Not so long ago, one could presume this safely.

TonyO: as Faddah Z says – “rem acu tetigisti”.

Thankfully, over here in my town in Ireland, our local Redemptorist Fathers have confession *every* weekday Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 10.30 a.m. and on Saturdays from 10.00 to 11.00 and 16.00 to 17.00. Very well attended, and a happily diverse spread of ages. And, these days being these days, nationalities.

Our other churches have Saturday confessions, the Dominicans being very good. And well attended – they also emphasise Confession and Adoration, and have a Divine Mercy chapel. Sadly, no TLM. One has to travel for that.

But, hey, Deo gratias. It’s a lot better than it was even 30 years ago.
