Father, is this a Latin NO Mass or a traditional latin Mass?
Detroit is quite a fortunate city to have the NO offered
in Latin regularly at Assumption Grotto (with truly sacred
music), and at Old St. Mary’s in Greektown (a beautiful
old Church), and quite nearby the Traditional Latin Mass
is offered weekly at St. Josephat (another beautiful old
Church). There will be an Easter morning Solemn High
Mass (9:30). St. Joseph’s (another Church in Detroit)
will be offering a Latin Palestrina NO for the Vigil
of Easter as well. Almost makes one want to live in
Detroit!
P.S. My Veuve Clicquot is still chilling!
My gut tells me it is a NO mass.
I will certainly consider going, as I am in the suburbs.
I have never been to AG, and it is high time that I go.
Yes, Assumption Grotto’s Mass is NO. Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices will be performed at both the St. Josaphat TLM and, across the river, at Windsor’s St. Michael’s TLM on Easter Sunday.
Note that St. Joseph and neighboring Holy Family Churches offer weekly Sunday NO Latin Masses St. Joseph offers Monday and Tuesday noon NO Latin Masses (most of its Latin and English Masses are ad orientem), and Holy Family’s daily Mass is NO Latin ad orientem. Detroit’s Our Lady of Mt. Carmel offers a First Friday NO Latin Mass, and Sterling Heights’ Ss. Cyril & Methodius offers a weekly Wednesday morning NO Latin Mass.
In Windsor, historic Assumption Church offers a weekly 11:00 AM English Mass accompanied by Latin Ordinaries and polyphonic Masses every week.
The automobile industry may be hurting, but our Latin Mass scene is flourishing.
