Too many people today are without good, strong preaching, to the detriment of all. Share the good stuff.
Was there a GOOD point made in the sermon you heard at your Mass of obligation for this 2nd Sunday of Advent?
Tell us about attendance especially for the Traditional Latin Mass.
Any local changes or (hopefully good) news? A taste of what I offered at 1 Peter 5 this week:

The Forerunner’s question, however, has long raised perplexity. Did John doubt? How could the one who leapt in the womb at the presence of Christ, who baptized Him and pointed to Him as the Lamb of God, now falter? St. Gregory the Great resolved this by considering the order of events. When free beside the Jordan John proclaimed Christ boldly. Yet once he had been cast into prison, Gregory says, John desired to know whether Christ would enter personally into the realm of the dead. Gregory writes, …

We had our beautiful Rorate yesterday. Wonderful to see a packed Church for a 6 AM Mass on Saturday.
Our pastor is giving an Advent Sermon series on the “Virtues for Our Times”. They can be viewed here.

Novus Ordo. Holy Father Parochial Vicar preached on the nature of the peace and unity that Isaiah prophesied about in the first reading: it requires our purification and the need for all men to come under the one banner of Christ in His Church. That peace and harmony will come to mankind when they are united in the one Church He founded.
Traveling in Portland and I fortuitously made a hotel reservation near St. Mary’s Cathedral. The sermon was in honor of yesterday being the feast of St. Nicholas. Beautiful church, and in honor of the close of the second Vatican council, the mass was what I believe the bishops envisioned in their reforms. Including the use of the altar rail. Quite a shock from living in Southern California.
JonS,
I listened to the first “Advent Recollection” at the link you provided and thought it was excellent!

Our visiting priest spoke on Our Lord’s question in today’s Gospel concerning St. John the Baptist “What went you out into the desert to see?”, repeatedly mentioned the phrase “A reed shaken with the wind?” and giving examples of what that might mean in today’s world.
I’m visiting relatives and so assisted at Mass at what I like to call “The Church of What’s Happening Now!” As designed, the church has a weird layout. Blessed Sacrament is reserved (I guess, for there was no vigil light) in a separate chapel. Organ and piano music. It took me a while to notice, the cantor, despite all her arm waving, who was behind and to the right of the pastor. All I remember of the Deacon’s homily was that we should not let him go to the Home Goods store because they have so many nice Christmas decorations that he’d spend all his money there. And that he used the phrase “that which” about seven times. Finally, the pastor encouraged everyone to wear something “pink” to Mass next week in honor of Laetare Sunday.
FSSP Church. There are actually 3 advents of Jesus – his becoming flesh at Christmas, his eventual “second coming” at the end of time, and his coming to each of us individually if we allow him. Advent is a time when we can allow Jesus in by forsaking some of the things of this world, for example the time we spend looking at screens such as our phones. Stop looking at YouTube videos and spend that time in prayer or spiritual reading.
Why did St. John the Baptist eat locusts? the opinion of the Fathers is that locusts are reminiscent of our spiritual lives. they have wings, but their wings are too small for their bodies and they quickly fall back to earth, only to start up again. we too make good resolutions, but soon fail and need to reassert.
he also recounted a story of St. Nicholas where some details were new to me. After boldly standing up to the heresiarch Arias, the saint was stripped of his vestments and imprisoned. He then had a dream where our Lord and our Lady restored his vestments. at length was released from prison and reinstated.
My pastor is on this excellent podcast – he’s the slender fellow in the grey habit
