ROME 26/3– Day 01: And so it begins

The Roman sunrise was at 06:05 and sunset is at 18:29. The Ave Maria is in the 18:45 cycle. It is the 83rd day of the year and my 1st day in Rome, though tomorrow will be the 1st full day.

On the way into town from the airport, a sight or two.  From the moving taxi….

The Temple of Portunus.

Santa Maria in Cosmodin

The side and apse of San Nicola in Carcere.  The part that sticks out laterally is the chapel where the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe is venerated, first in Rome, I think, and adorned with new gold from the New World.

Oh well.

Something chessy, but really more.

Golly Pete – what a beautiful old Church and School. Wish it were not in Chicago. And that I had a spare $2.5M.

It’s amazing what the modern Catholics of the Spirit of V2 have turned their backs upon.

What a crime! The legacy of so many of our bad shepherds will be the closing of beautiful churches and the decimation of Catholic education- so sad. At a minimum, I hope any Catholic priests/parishes looking to upgrade or renovate will obtain some of the beautiful statuary etc. in this

Well the A330 did it’s job. Thank you Delta.

Hopefully you made it to your apartment (you liked the last one so maybe you are at the same place again) and recuperated a little from jet lag. Enjoy your stay and I am sure “The Parish” is looking forward to having you back.

That’s the best we can send to the old world? Chain burger?
Howzabout something intrinsic beauty that can nourish the body and soul?
Being of NY blood, I shout – “Viva Pizza Ray!”
