USA Day 1 – A soft landing

Back in Rome, the sun was supposed to rise at 06:56 and set at 16:53, the two ends of the day clamping in on the residents like a Death Star dumpster.

The numbskulls who are in charge of the Roman Curia calendar still haven’t changed the Ave Maria from the 17:30 to the 17:15 cycle.

Thank you, Lord, for this 318th day of the year.

For my first meal back, I try to get a cheeseburger.  This particular pub does a great job with everything.  The onion rings were every bit as good as they look, bun buttered and grilled, cooked to exactly the point I requested.  You’ve gotta love a bar that has a beer called “Delirium Tremens”.

It’s aways hard to leave Rome, but this softens the landing.  Hit the spot.

And… the election cycle is over!

YAY!

Please remember me when shopping online. Thanks in advance. US HERE – UK HERE  These links take you to a generic “catholic” search in Amazon, but, once in and browsing or searching, Amazon remembers that you used my link and I get the credit.

[NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.]

The Tata Steel Chess India tournaments are underway from 13-17 November in Kolkata (for those of you in Columbia Heights, that’s Calcutta, in India). There an open tournament and a women’s tournament which run concurrently. Rapid and blitz take place one after another. The players duke it out in a single round-robin with a 25+10 time control.

My guy Wesley So is participating, so I will follow this as best I can.

TOUGH field! Nodirbek who is becoming a beast. Pragg, deadly. Magnus… what to say? Arjun, who is playing really well right now. Keymer, Vidit, Dubov, Sarin… you get the point. I hope Wesley crushes them all.

A well-made cheeseburger is a glorious thing! Seeking out the good ones is rather a focus of my retirement.?

I’m sure you have heard that while you were gone, the Church of mercy, walking-together-ity, and “listening to the people in the peripheries” has decided to shut down 5 well attended Traditional Latin Masses in the Diocese of Tyler TX, the diocese once headed up by Bishop Strickland. Just when we thought maybe they had stopped trying to stamp out the authentic Catholic faith. How long, O Lord, must we endure this?

    Welcome back, Fr. Z.
That looks like excellent pub fare. Delirium tremens is a very fine beer, one of my favourites to order when I would go to a certain pub in Toronto. My other favourite is La Trappe’s Quadrupel.
