Remember… the TLM has to be crushed.
A scene in the Modernist, ecumenical, synodal Pan-Religious dismal drama…
By their fruits… You know the missing part, don't you? pic.twitter.com/zeSDA9befO

This is from yesterday, but that’s okay.
Nine years ago today, Fr. Jacques Hamel was martyred by Islamic Terrorists, whilst celebrating Mass in Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray, northern France.

Here is a hard one I found at chess.com (I’m an affiliate). White to move. Force mate.
NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.

The 2025 Esports World Cup is going on in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. There is a $1.5 million prize fund and $250,000 for first place. Chess players are also part of esports teams that share a $27 million prize fund. Twelve players qualified for the main event via the Champions Chess Tour. Four qualified in the Last Chance Qualifier (24-26 July $50k prize fund). There were some real fireworks, including the elimination of the unlikeable Hans Niemann by the highly likeable Anish Giri.

I read today that another TLM has been suspended. This time it was in Sweden. The suggestion was that the suspension was temporary, but we’ll see.
On the heels of Detroit and the looming hammer-drop in Charlotte, I now fear that there won’t be any salvation coming from the new pope, at least not in the near future. Yes, requests for TLM extensions have been approved by the Vatican, but that only works if the bishops want the TLM to continue in their dioceses. Some clearly don’t want that.
If it was clear Leo intended to right the wrongs of TC relatively soon, I suspect the word would have made it to the bishops, either overtly or covertly, that any attempts to suppress or suspend the TLM should be put on hold.
I will continue to hope and pray that TC is overturned, but it’s clear this isn’t any sort of priority for the new pope right now.
1. c7×d8=N++
If . . . . . . . . . . . K-e8
2. Q-e7#
If . . . . . . . . . . . K-g8
2. R-g7+. . . . . . K-h8
3. Q×f8#
.
1. c7×d8=Q+ is more obvious and probably works, but I didn’t bother to analyze that option because “=N++” clearly yields the desired result and more likely merits your characterization of the puzzle as a “hard one.”
Jacques Hamel, pray for us.
It will be interesting to see how the new Pope deals with the Society of St Pius X requests for Bishops.
It’ll be bread or snake time.
Bread… good for everyone everywhere…
Snake…. doesn’t bear thinking about….
But if it is Snake…. then good bishops will come bearing bread… and some will be co- consecrators…. and everyone everywhere will clearly see the reptiles where ever they are lurking.

I think that doesn’t work in the long run. There is 1…. Kg8 instead of Ke8. Then look what happens. That black rook on a8 is aimed at the white King. Eventually through forcing moves black’s knight will fork white’s King and Queen.
I think the way forward must be a Queen sac. That attracts the king by force to a square where it can be attacked.
1. Qe7+ (forces) Kxe7
2. c8=N+ (double check forces) Ke8 white’s rook has the 7th rank.

The eyes in Fr Ojeka’s picture say it all. Discomfort prevails (except the priest) and no one is looking at Our Lord in the Sacrament. Even Cranmer would take issue with the pig crate borrowed from the county fair. Despite it being a festive balloon-worthy event, no one seems to find joy in the proceedings.
@Robbie
I have to say that this episcopal rush of suppressions and firings is baffling to me. If these bishops think the pope would approve, then why hurry? If they think he wouldn’t… why mark themselves as “opponents” in such a blatant way? If they don’t know where he stands… it’s a high risk for what appears to be very little reward. Maybe they think he’s too weak or determined not to rock the boat… but then, again, why hurry?
As for the Pope himself… in English they say “personnel is policy”; in Spanish, as is fitting, we have a less operative and more pessimistic saying: one must know with which oxen one is plowing. Certainly the Pope has the power to appoint, but he cannot change every single person (not even most of them) at once, and he does not have an infinite pool to pick from. In the meantime, he must till the earth with the instruments he’s given. With everything that implies.
