Select St. Michael the Archangel Novena – Day 7

St. Michael the Archangel Novena – Day 7

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

St. Michael the Archangel, we honor you as a powerful protector of the Church and guardian of our souls. Inspire us with your humility, courage and strength that we may reject sin and perfect our love for our Heavenly Father.

In your strength and humility, slay the evil and pride in our hearts so that nothing will keep us from God.

St. Michael the Archangel, pray that we may be protected from the snares of the devil, that we may avoid all occasions of sin.

St. Michael the Archangel, you are the prince of angels but in your humility you recognized that God is God and you are but His servant. Unlike Satan, you were not overcome with pride but were steadfast in humility. Pray that we will have this same humility.

It is in the spirit of that humility that we ask for your intercession for our petitions…

(state your petitions)

“Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.”

Sancte Michael Archangele, defende nos in proelio, contra nequitiam et insidias diaboli esto praesidium. Imperet illi Deus, supplices deprecamur: tuque, Princeps militiae caelestis, Satanam aliosque spiritus malignos, qui ad perditionem animarum pervagantur in mundo, divina virtute, in infernum detrude. Amen.

Amen.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

Daily Rome Shot 1131 – Clerical Guyabera!

Thanks go out to an unknown reader who sent some items from my wishlist.  No slips were included in the box and or the envelope, so I don’t have a clue as to who you are or how to send a thank you note.  So… if you recently sent something and didn’t hear from me, thank you.  The angels know who you are and you are included in my prayers.

Please remember me when shopping online and use my affiliate links.  US HERE – UK HERE  WHY?  This helps to pay for health insurance (massively hiked for this new year of surprises), utilities, groceries, etc..  At no extra cost, you provide help for which I am grateful.

Hey Fathers!  How about a clerical Guayabera shirt?

In churchy news… Ed Pentin has a piece at the National Catholic Register about newly appointed consultors for the Dicastery (Congregation) for the Doctrine of the Faith.  HERE   In the list of appointments, I didn’t see either a native English speaker or an African.  Most are Italian.  A couple of them would never have entered into my strangest imaginations to appoint.

In churchy news…

This is worth a read.  At the UK’s Catholic Herald, an article about how Francis wrote to the Cardinals telling them to tighten the belt and work for zero deficit.  They are going to have to resort to “seek external resources to cover operating costs” and then those who do well should “contribute to cover the general deficit”.   Also, he has urged “mutual collaboration and synergies”.   There’s a really interesting point at the end of the article about a “Council for Inclusive Capitalism with the Vatican”.  Check it out.

Card. Pell was not available for comment.

Something popped across my screen that I did  four years ago, namely, my reading of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 44, from my daily Twitter series of all of the Bard’s Sonnets. Yup, I did them all, 154.  I threw in some other poets too, for variety, like GK Chesterton, and  That was a fun project. I was challenged my one of you readers to do it because Patrick Stewart was doing it during COVID Theater.

Latin Collect for St. Pio, Padre Pio of Pietrelcina – 23 September

It took some time but I dug up the Latin Collect for St. Pio, Padre Pio of Pietrelcina Pio of Pietrelcina 23 Sept

Collecta

This could be used in the TLM.

Corpus Christi Watershed has a PDF with the chants for his Mass with the 1962 Missal.  HERE  The Introit is Os iusti.    The readings assigned in the NO are (EP) Gal 2, 19-20 (GOSP) Mt 16:24-27.

Daily Rome Shot 1129 – preparations and a reminder

I wrote of the passing of a friend and confrere of the Archconfraternity of the Most Holy Trinity in Rome, Giancarlo, after his long suffering. His body will be watch over during the night before interment at the great Verano cemetery near St. Lawrence outside-the-walls. During the night members of the Archconfraternity will stand vigil in turns.

Here are the arrangements for the arrival of Giancarlo’s coffin in the sala of the Archconfraternity.

In your goodness, please say a prayer for him.

The 22nd of September has come and gone, the Autumnal Equinox, and the birthday of Bilbo and Frodo. And, in Gondor, it was a festival in honor of Frodo on 30 Yavannie (= 22 September). Tolkien’s books were an important link in a chain of events that, eventually led to conversion and priesthood, rather like “the falling of small stones that starts an avalanche in the mountains”. Meanwhile, for a couple of years now there has been a series called Rings of Power. It has been relentlessly drifting between tedious, irritating and cringeworthy. I have watched it nonetheless. The most recent episode had some moments of redemption, now that they are really getting into the point of the series.

Since it is 23 Sept, and the Feast of St. “Padre Pio” of Pietrelcina, I share my relic of St. Pio, which is a piece of a blood stained bandage.

The reliquary was a from a reader and kind benefactor who often sends practical things, like household items or tools, from my wishlist, CG.

I remind you about a new book published by Emmaus Press, a branch of the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology.

On The Demonic by Archbp. Fulton J. Sheen.

US HEREUK HERE (not yet)

The forward explains that, toward the end of his life, Sheen was ever more convinced that we are living in a demonic age and that we may be seeing the “first cells of the Anti-Christ”.  More on this amazing book HERE.

YOUR URGENT PRAYER REQUESTS

PLEASE use the sharing buttons! Thanks!

In your charity would you please take a moment look at the requests and to pray for the people about whom you read?

Continued from THESE.

Let’s remember all who are ill, who will die soon, who have died recently, who have lost their jobs, who are afraid.

I get many requests by email asking for prayers. Some are heart-achingly grave and urgent.

As long as my blog reaches so many readers in so many places, let’s give each other a hand. We should support each other in works of mercy.

If you have some prayer requests, feel free to post them below.

You have to be registered here to be able to post.

In your kindness continue prayers for my mother, who has been diagnosed with something grave and incurable.

Serotinal autumnal nycthemeral parity

Today is the Autumnal Equinox. The Sun crossed the celestial equator on its southerly course at 12:44 UTC (08:44 EST).  The Sun would be directly overhead as seen from a point in the equatorial Atlantic Ocean, 461 miles (743 km) SSW of Monrovia, Liberia.

You knew that the Equinox was coming because in the traditional Roman calendar, so much more closely harmonized with the rhythms of nature and Mother Earth, we observed the September Ember Days.

Here is a magnificent photo from APOD.  This is a solar analemma above the Temple of Apollo in ancient Corinth. The Sun’s position is at the upper mid-point.  This was made from exposures through the year on a single piece of film at the same time of day from 7 January to 20 December 2003.

Paul would certainly have stood in the sun’s shine and seen this temple with his own eyes.

Lesson from the first letter of St Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians (1 Cor 1:4-8)

Brethren: I give thanks to my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus, because in everything you have been enriched in Him, in all utterance and in all knowledge; even as the witness to the Christ has been made so firm in you that you lack no grace, while awaiting the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who will also keep you secure unto the end, unimpeachable in the day of the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

R.
Thanks be to God.

Time marches on.

GO TO CONFESSION!
