What color is liturgical “rose”?

Today is Laetare Sunday, one of the two days of the year when we can use rosacea vestments. I am sure many bloggers will be talking about how rosacea entered into the Roman usage. I will limit myself to showing you what color it is. That is to say, most of the time you will see pink. Pink is not liturgical rose.

Keeping in mind that your monitor might be producing different colors than I can see, here are some shots of a very nice rosacea vestment I saw used this morning here in Rome at the Church Gesu e Maria on the Via del Corso, where a "Tridentine" Mass is celebrated regularly on Sundays and feasts.

Notice that Roman liturgical rosacea has a slightly orange cast, almost like the flesh of fresh Copper River salmon. … yum.

I have a set of very old vestments back in the USA which have precisely the same color. And since they, like these, are silk, they are quite splendid when they move in the light.
