PODCAzT 20: Leo the Great and Benedict - Habemus Papam!
Today’s PODCAzT takes us to the 5th century to spend some time with Leo the Great, Pope from 440-461. Leo was very conscious of the primacy of the Bishop of Rome among all the bishops of the world. Also, today I talk about the anniversary of the election of Pope Benedict, 2 years ago today! I have some audio of the annoucement "Habemus Papam!" and his first speech. On the way out there is the audio of his first Urbi et Orbi Blessing.

Too gravelly, too low, too nasal. Not to mention my Midwestern/Iron Range accent, doncha know? Well, I guess that makes it distinctive, eh?

But I still have to protest once more the business of having an English translation drown out the voice of the pope. Why can’t they just let us hear what we would have heard had we been there?

Your podcast was (once again) excellent. This podcast, with this beautiful setting of Tu es Petrus in the background, instilled a great emotion in me as I was once again reminded of the great nature and lineage of the Papacy. The Pope is a living reminder of the continuation of Christ’s guidance and love for the Church and the whole of humanity. I will never forget when Pope Benedict XVI was elected in 2005.
Thank you Father for this great online ministry.

I recognize da Palestrina for the composition at the begining, but the one at the end with the organ is new to me, but the effect of having the audio of the Holy Father’s Blessing overlayed there is amazing.
