About this blog…
“This blog is like a fusion of the Baroque ‘salon’ with its well-tuned harpsichord around which polite society gathered for entertainment and edification and, on the other hand, a Wild West “saloon” with its out-of-tune piano and swinging doors, where everyone has a gun and something to say. Nevertheless, we try to point our discussions back to what it is to be Catholic in this increasingly difficult age, to love God, and how to get to heaven.” – Fr. Z

- The most evident mark of God’s anger and the most terrible castigation He can inflict upon the world are manifested when He permits His people to fall into the hands of clerics who are priests more in name than in deed, priests who practice the cruelty of ravening wolves rather than the charity and affection of devoted shepherds.

“Until the Lord be pleased to settle, through the instrumentality of the princes of the Church and the lawful ministers of His justice, the trouble aroused by the pride of a few and the ignorance of some others, let us with the help of God endeavor with calm and humble patience to render love for hatred, to avoid disputes with the silly, to keep to the truth and not fight with the weapons of falsehood, and to beg of God at all times that in all our thoughts and desires, in all our words and actions, He may hold the first place who calls Himself the origin of all things.”

Don’t rely on popes, bishops and priests.
“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”
“Who is going to save our Church? Not our bishops, not our priests and religious. It is up to you, the people. You have the minds, the eyes, and the ears to save the Church. Your mission is to see that your priests act like priests, your bishops act like bishops.”- Fulton Sheen

"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II

Let us pray…
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

I just returned from a week spent at a Catholic camp in upstate New York near Newburgh. I witnessed over 300 young people avail of the extraordinary grace of confession, adore our Lord in Eucharistic Adoration, receive Him at daily Mass, pray the rosary together each morning and be uplifted with beautiful music and outstanding homilies from courageous priests as well as encouraging testimonies in the Faith from religious and lay people. Deo Gratias!
My mother, who suffered a stroke two years ago and was paralyzed on her left side, is beginning to move on the left. She’s back in PT and yesterday they took her to the parallel bars and had her stand up from her wheelchair and balance as long as she could. It seems they plan on her walking.
Since her stroke, I keep thinking of Jesus healing the paralytic, telling him to get up, take his mat and go home; there’s nothing my mother would like more than going home, from her first words in the speaking tube “I wanna go home.”
A priest I know is being reassigned and will be his bishop’s secretary. He was ordained Dec 1 and is nervous, so please pray for Fr. Peter.
I went to confession at an FSSP church. Best confession of my life!

Just found out my wife is carrying our 7th child! Deo gratias!
Leaving today on an honest-to-God vacation with my wife and mother.
We’re going for our second family wedding in three weeks in Ireland, where (I am pleased to be able to say) the Church is NOT dead!
Congratulations Bev!
I served Low Mass last week for the feast of the Assumption last week by myself, and it seems like Father and the adult in charge are content to let me serve solo. I leave for Franciscan University tomorrow on the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Ad Jesum per Mariam!
Also on the Assumption we went to the Fathers of Mercy, for the Mass of the final profession of vows and about 30 kids and adults made the Total Consecration to Mary. Everything is on my blog (as well as a big prayer request for a parish family)!
Was a Commentator for a Low Mass. We Capped with the Singing of the Salve Regina! :-)
Got a bunch of wedding stuff taken care of and am excited to meet with our deacon at the parish on Saturday morning. My fiancé made it home from his vacation safely and I really want to make it to confession tomorrow afternoon. if I can’t make it, fine, Saturday afternoon or evening is ok, but I want to try.
My 16 year old daughter has landed her first part time job with a good employer here in the UK. Really delighted for her as it has been a great boost to her self confidence. God is good!
The Eastern Province of Dominicans just received 18 men into their novitiate in Cincinnati. This is the largest class since 1966.
The student friars of the Dominican House of Studies are daily releasing new videos for the Year of Faith based on the Catechism. These videos are part of their popular blog called Dominicana which posts Monday through Friday.
Nope, still waiting for word about whether or not we can have our own traditional parish. Hopeful and prayerful to the end!
I made a good confession on the feast of the Assumption. Then I spent the weekend with the Stone Dominican Sisters (http://www.stonedominicans.org/) and it was a blessed time. Please pray for me that the Lord may give me guidance.
My 10 year old was part of a 90 member children’s choir that sang the introit, O sanctissima, the communio and 3 other Latin pieces/chants for the Assmption with three days’ preparation in a week-long choir camp.
Scott Turkington is coming to our parish and school to teach music/chant.
My smoked malt porter turned out awesome.
(Yes, I know these are not the same magnintude.)
Deo Gratias.
I had to take both kids to the doctor this week due to severe sore throats and IT WAS NOT STREP!!!
I am just so happy that this is a run of the mill virus with a simple runny nose, simple sore throat, low fevers, and general crankiness.
If I might ask– prayers that we all get over it soon. :)
I just recently began 2 novena’s at once. The first being to St. Monica, for my son, whose birthday is on her feast day, the second being to Our Lady Undoer of Knots, for the many “knots” in my life and the lives’ of those whom I know and love or am trying to love. The problems and people and me (some are the same) for whom I am asking intercession are being flooded with what I can only describe as amazing, amazing, Grace. I am dumbfounded at what is happening. Thanks be to God, Our Lady, and St. Monica
We packed the hall Sunday afternoon for our first Polish “Wedding Feast” fundraiser. This is important to us, as we are a small parish in a Kalamazoo neighborhood that is mainly non-Catholic. Yet we are the only parish in the diocese which has a weekly TLM–Low Mass right now and High Mass with a capella schola and organ–what?–embellishment? All beautifully done. We also have daily Mass (OF, M-Th; EF, Fri & St), even though we only have one priest. He is, thank goodness, ably assisted by a deacon and well-trained servers. I think everybody in the parish came together to work on the dinner. It was a tour de force. Our hard-working young pastor, besides saying Grace & the usual welcome, doubled as head cook and auctioneer.
Last Saturday completed our move to Lewiston Maine where we are 10 minutes from the Basilica with a Sunday EF Mass, and an adoration chapel 5 minutes away. In other words, all the necessities of life :)
My wife and I are no the owners of a 113 year old house and two acres in South Dakota. Driving into the small town (of 247) I said to her, “See that on top of that building; that’s a dust collector, and that is a wood shop”. We stopped. I talked with the owner and showed photos of my work. He said, “I’ve been through 15 employees in three years, are you looking for a job?” We leave on Sept. 29th. We will raise honeybees, bumble bees, rabbits, ducks for eggs, have an orchard of 12 plus 1 fruit trees. I will make Welsh stick chairs and grow a lot of food. And I have a job. We have been praying to St. Joseph. “IHS”. “Viva Christo Rey!”
Oops, “now the owners”
My husband was just offered a job. Special thanks to Saint Josemaria and the novena for employment.

Wow, congratulations All! :)
My good news is my beloved sister came through her surgery yesterday for colon cancer well. She had a colostomy, and now we pray for no more cancer and a good adjustment to her new physical changes. Very grateful the day after such a huge surgery she is up and walking. Thank you Jesus and Mary and all the wonderful saints who’s intercession I asked for. Also St. Peregrine!
I’m entering the novitiate on Sunday, and (God-willing) I’ll be preparing for priestly ordination down the line. In any case, I believe God will greatly bless my time there. With 22 novices (first- and second-year), our novitiate is at full capacity–they had to convert an office and all the guest rooms. A good problem to have! The community is raising support to add on some rooms for future growth.
