I don’t agree with Musk on his views about chess. I don’t think the game would have endured for 1000 years if it did not distill some of the essence of actual warfare. How often in real life does something like “lasers from space that never existed before” actually happen. You go to war with the technology and equipment you have developed over the years and that you have been trained on.
Today the feast of St. Bruno also happens to be my birthday so I will have my usual tot of Chartreuse (distilled at the Carthusian monastery that he founded). I was surprised that there was no commemoration of him at Lauds this morning, although my son noted that he is commemorated in the pre 1955 Lauds. I wonder why he was dropped.
I’ll keep Effe in mind when I’m back in Rome.
