Apple allows “back door” to data. Implications for texting apps like WhatsApp and Signal?

This got my attention. I wonder what the implications are for texting apps like Whats App and Signal.

If I remember correctly (correct me if I am wrong) WhatsApp is already being mined by AI because it is part of Fakebook.

Signal is more secure.

Tech knowledgeable people should chime in.  I mean” “people who know what they are talking about”.

But… if you use it on an Apple device…. ?

I renew also my invitation for people who use SaaS to look into Federated.

They have replacements for many expensive services which also mine your data.  With Federated, your data is yours.

Federated has an app called Element which is for group chat and for video chat.  I have a (not very active) chat group for live Mass streams and I’ve used the video chat a couple times because I will not use Zoom (which is mined by Fakebook).

If you care about security, the only app I trust is Briar. You cannot get it on an Apple phone, however. There are Android and desktop versions. On Android, look in the f-droid store (https://f-droid.org). Also, as much as speech is a concern, our enemies (Russia & China) are absolutely terrible when it comes to freedom of speech AND they have gotten very good at weaponizing our freedoms to undermine our institutions to make us weak. Be always vigilant!

Apple pulled the feature for UK users going forward. No iCloud encryption will be available.

This does not affect US users.

By pulling this feature from the UK market, Apple won’t be forced to comply or wrangle with UK government orders regarding decryption.

Turn off cloud backup on your phone and not worry about it. Do local backups and encrypt them before sending them to someone else’s data center (i.e. the cloud).

The vast majority of people would need to pay anyway as the “free” version only includes 5GB and that’s not enough to even backup most of the operating system.

This also has implications for business that store backups in the cloud. Our company is considering pulling backups of on prem data out of the cloud and moving them back on prem.

We have had an active focus of migrating all users in foreign companies off their erp systems and to US based hosting and data centers where foreign governments can not serve secret suponeas for data. Yes, it has become that bad.

Signal was started by the CIA. It is not secure. Why should anyone care about whether China or Russia has access to your messages? Every conversation and email is recorded by our own government through the NSA and stored in Utah. Also, the CIA is surveilling us, as well as the evil Mossad through Palantir. In 2014, Obama allowed China to breach the personnel data of the entire federal government and its employees, including the Defense Department. China has all the bank info and SS numbers and more importantly record of activities that could be used for blackmail. Our own government is not to be trusted and it has all the goods on us already. China and Russia are not the problem at all. Edward Snowden is in exile in Russia because the US government did not want Americans to know that it is violating the Constitution with its illegal surveillance of us!! Here is the article on Signal’s origins. https://english.almayadeen.net/articles/analysis/signal-facing-collapse-after-cia-cuts-fundingThe National Endowment for Democracy is by the operations arm of the CIA. It carries out illegal, criminal and unconstitutional activities here in the US and abroad.
