Not sure if it qualifies as “going deep,” but Bishop Martin inspired me to record my first new parody song in a while.

To the tune of “City of New Orleans”:

“Good morning, Your Excellency, how are ya?
Say, don’t you know us? We’re your faithful flock
We would hate to leave the Diocese of Charlotte
But if that letter drops, we might just walk”

Bishop pauses Latin Mass changes in Charlotte until original Oct 2 per Charlotte’s diocesan newspaper.

I read the online version of both the ad and double- spread. I must say it seems rather unseemly to have a profile piece on a Bishop from a religious community extolling his accomplishments in a diocesan newspaper.

The online ad included this “helpful” information:

    What’s in it for you?

COMMUNITY: Engage with a welcoming Catholic community through various activities and sessions.
ENCOUNTER: Deepen your spiritual experience with Jesus during a powerful Eucharistic procession and adoration.
BELONGING: Feel a sense of connection and support in an inclusive environment.
GROWTH: Grow in your faith and understanding of Catholic teachings with inspiring talks.

“What’s in it for you” as a hook kind of tells me all I need to know about this event. I will add that community, encounter and belonging all seem to be the same thing (feelings…) and it’s obviously the major emphasis since it’s 3 bullet points and “Grow in your faith and understanding of Catholic teachings” gets to bring up the rear.

May I simply say what most are thinking? As advertised, this congress is about as manly as a show-tunes sing-a-long. Does His Excellency have no self awareness? Or maybe too much.

I’m going to the diocese of Charlotte in about a week and will be attending a diocesan Vetus Ordo… I’m honestly not well versed in how funds from monetary offerings at Mass are distributed, should the traditonalist faithful of the diocese (or visitors such as myself) be donating or not?

  5. francophile says:

I wonder if the bishop can understand his own episcopal motto, whic is in Latin and is “duc in altum.”

  6. Angelo Tan says:

His Excellency forgot to complete the headline, putting the rest on fine print perhaps:

“YOU BELONG HERE, only if you follow my liturgical directives down to the letter; otherwise, you don’t!”

  7. Not says:

I rarely if ever attend Novus Ordo. A couple of Christmas’s ago we had to go to local N O. The ushers brought us right down front.
The Priest came down from the Altar with microphone and long cord and sang what some told me was a Beyoncé song.
He was belting it out like he was at a nightclub. The only thing he didn’t do was swing the microphone. I look around like the only sane person in the asylum and noticed the look on everyone’s faces. They didn’t know what to think. Then the applause’s started from the back. My good wife knew what was going through my mind. .. grab the microphone land slap him around or get up and leave. I
At her insistence ,I stayed. I had no Idea what was going on.
They weren’t even following the Rubics of the Novus Ordo.
    God help us all.

  8. Felsenwatcher says:

I notice that in the rotating photos, there are several women wearing veils. Just sayin’. Maybe someone from the diocese should get on that.

  9. The Astronomer says:

His Excellency Bishop Martin appears to be afflicted with a wee bit of ‘Spirit-of-Vatican-Two narcissism.
