Think of all the wasted money and time and the negative knock-on effect of downgrading and “modernization” of churches on the faith. So much waste. Such disregard for the sacrifices of the faithful who worked and paid for their churches. Yes, slowly some damage is being rectified. But… so much waste. And for what?

In Bay Shore, Long Island, the United American Muslim Association (UAMA) just purchased the historic Monfort Missionaries seminary complex, a 70,000 sq ft building on 14.6 acres, for $5.2 million.
A Catholic seminary that trained boys for the priesthood is set to become a full-time Islamic boarding school for Muslim boys.

The Tweet above of the Saginaw, MI cathedral reminds me of the “wreckovation” of the cathedral in Milwaukee, WI done by disgraced Archbishop Rembert Weakland.
My old home parish had a beautiful 1950’s church. A bigger church was needed in the 1990’s, and the pastor then decided to build a big half-round church without much consultation. Attendance and donations plummeted. The result was not as bad as many other churches of the day, but not good.
The parish is now redecorating and renovating to make the best of a bad hand. The bizarrely off-center placement of the altar and crucifix is going to an exact center alignment. Some nice Catholic murals/paintings will replace the vast expanse of white wall. Looks a zillion times better, even in concept art.
Had to wreckovate to get ready for the New Springtime, doncha know!
Besides, less overtly Catholic architecture makes the buildings more saleable to others (see the sale of Montfort, which seems to have a goodly share of that mid-century modern architecture that *accompanied* the New Springtime)

Wiktionary defines quaquaversally as “in a quaquaversal way,” which is defined as going off in all directions from the center. Perhaps another definition could be “the direction a Church takes while walking together.”

Do the priests and bishops who sign off on these things REALLY have (a) no idea why there’s no vocations to fill the place, and (b) no clue how offensive to the laity it is to sell a Catholic seminary to a faith that hates Catholics?
Fyi – if you want to see a major improvement to a sanctuary check out Prince of Peace in Plano, Texas. The sanctuary was built circa 1990 and it literally looked like a cave with the tabernacle outside and no kneelers. Fast forward 30 years and millions of dollars (generous donors) renovated the sanctuary into an appropriate sacred space. Kudos to a good pastor emeritus there too who arrived around 2014.

Was NOT expecting to see my diocese’s Cathedral on here. We might have gotten a decent renovation done, but finding an decent place to go to Mass or practice the faith is almost impossible. We faithful Catholics have to drive outside the diocese just to find a decent liturgy (and while I am a “trad”, I’m not just talking about the TLM). We never have any good speakers, retreats or conferences, let alone even have the ability to do basic devotions without having to fight the chancery uphill the whole way. We’re starving here. I don’t mean for this to be a pity comment, but please, whoever sees this, pray for us Catholics in Diocese of Saginaw. We grow so weary of being Catholics here.
