Prayer initiative for the Motu Proprio

For quite a while now, I have been saying a prayer each day for the good reception of the Motu Proprio which will derestrict the older form of Mass, the so-called "Tridentine" rite.

I see now that Card. Dias has asked hundreds of monasteries and convents of nuns to pray for the good reception of the Holy Father’s letter to Catholic in China.

This is now exactly the right approach.  Our timing is good.

I ask all of you sincerely to say prayers for the good reception of the Motu Proprio.

May the hard of heart yield to the Holy Spirit when hearing of Vicar of Christ’s will.
May the eager rejoice graciously and with true thanksgiving to God.
May the ignorant seek first to learn before making judgments.
May the learned offer comments in charity.
May our priests use considered prudence.
May our bishops be generous and paternal.

VENI, Sancte Spiritus, reple tuorum corda fidelium, et tui amoris in eis ignem accende. COME, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Thy faithful and kindle in them the fire of Thy love.
V. Emitte Spiritum tuum et creabuntur;
R. Et renovabis faciem terrae.
V. Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created
R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
Oremus:
Amen.
Let us pray:
O GOD, Who taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that, by the gift of the same Spirit, we may be always truly wise, and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

  1. Wow! I don’t think anticipatory prayers of thanksgiving for exactly that outcome are at all misplaced, in such a spiritual battle. The atheists won’t know what hit them!

  2. Bede says:

A wonderful initiative, Father! I shall join you in this prayer.

  3. UPDATE!

The German language section of Vatican Radio has a story about a bit of a riot over the old Mass.

Apparently in Naifles in the diocese of Laval in France, the 94 year old priest saying the “Tridentine” Mass for a group of the faithful died, leaving them without recourse.  The bishop then tightened restrictions, where upon a group of people occupied a church.  A group of people, 250, then stormed the church in return.  No one was hurt.

    Frankreich

(kna)

It is important to pray for our priests and bishops, that this MP will be well received.

  4. William says:

What is particularly sad about this case is that the church in question is the parish church (and the only church) in Niafles. This is a parish where the liturgical reform of 1970 NEVER HAPPENED.

Now that the parish priest died, the bishop is determined to implement the novus ordo even though the parish members do not want it and have an FSSP priest ready and waiting to say mass for them.

The mob that broke down the door to the church was composed of people who don’t even go to church in Niafles, led by the socialist mayor.

  5. chris says:

Father, i’m all for the MP being received well, but I think my prayers shall stay with the MP seeing the light of day first. That’s the most important thing. How some so-called Catholics receive it is important as well, but secondary. I’m just not taking for granted the fact that this is a done deal. If something, God forbid, happens to our Holy Father before this is promulgated it may never see the light of day …

  6. Zach says:

I seem to have missed something along the way. What does the letter to the Chinese have to do with the MP?

  7. Oops. My post above was meant to go in the Chinese Letter thread. Sorry.
