From a quick reading, doesn’t it sound as if they are having Mass in the traditional, Dominican Rite?
Okay… Mass didn’t merit a capital letter, and there is that odd phrase “embracing all faith traditions”.
Perhaps the “Dominican Catholic mass” means that the celebrant will preach against Albigensians.

I hope this isn’t the case, but perhaps folks from the western half of the island of Hispaniola spawned a schismatic group akin to the Polish National “catholic” Church.

No fair: I snorted out my coffee all over my keyboard when I read “Albigensians.” Maybe there’ll be doggies! But seriously, how would a mass in the “traditional, Dominican rite” Mass differ from any other?
Gregg, the Dominican Republic is the eastern end of the island.
Two thoughts:
(1) This is going to be a replay of that one Dominican “Catholic” “Mass” so happily documented in their memorial history book.
(2) Let’s assume that it will be in the traditional Dominican Rite and try and organize a nationwide effort to get an overwhelming number of faithful, orthodox Dominicans priests to show up and offer to celebrate the “Graduation Liturgy”… it would be awesome to watch what happens when the first chants start going up in Latin!

As an 3OP, I shake my head (and fists) at this. The Dominican rite is truly beautiful! Our chant, for one! This does not sound like something that the friars at my parish would approve….

But there will be an actual Dominican Rite Mass at the Dominican parish of St. Patrick’s in downtown Columbus, Ohio on August 4, 2013 at 2PM. It will also be celebrated by a Dominican priest!

I don’t know the details of the Mass – beyond the disturbing qualification that it will be “welcoming and embracing all faith traditions,” but…
Edgewood is run by the Sinsinawa Dominicans.
Draw your own conclusions from that, if you must.
!!! I’ve been to Mass at Edgewood College, exactly one time, on a Wednesday, and the details of what happened during the Mass and later as a result are so weird I don’t know where to begin. It definitely involved making up a lot of the text of the Mass as he went along. Also, walking up to me who was 2 or 3 rows back during the Sign of Peace to shake my hand and ask my name. But, when I mentioned this retired diocesan priest’s name to others, TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE volunteered the fact that at some time in the past he had “assaulted them with the Host” when they wanted to receive Communion on the tongue, which he quite obviously did not like (I was the only person present who received on the tongue). One of the instances involved a great homeschool family, he did this assault thing with the first family member in the Communion line who then indicated to the whole rest of the family not to receive and they all abstained; when told the pastor was horrified and had someone call the family and apologize. And, yes indeed he did that to me and it was really disturbing. Partly because the host reminded me somewhat of a rice cracker in taste and texture and I felt little confidence that they would take care to use valid matter, I went to a second Mass in the evening at my normal parish. It’s the kind of thing that makes you strongly appreciate your normal parish and the normal priest. Later the Vicar General emailed me to sternly warn me not to “disrupt Mass at Edgewood College”. Yes, I didn’t complain about the Mass at Edgewood… the VICAR GENERAL emailed ME… although not specified, the long and the short of what this was about was that when the priest walked up to me to shake my hand and ask my name I was startled and told him in a normal voice: “you’re not supposed to leave the sanctuary during the sign of peace, Father.” This is from the GIRM which says the reason why the priest must not do this is so Mass will not be disrupted. Don’t worry, I apologized for my liturgical abuse. If you are thinking that is too weird and why on earth did they complain to the Vicar General, well there is a larger story that is more complicated and seems to involve the priest getting in trouble because of me for something entirely else, that involved Holy Wisdom Monastery. The diocese knows what the priest is like and what Edgewood College is like.
It is valuable to put this on a blog that they are being confusing about their Mass being “for all faith traditions”.
There is only one liberal arts college in the country run by the Domincan Friars, that is, Province College in Province RI. So when you hear that this is Dominican College or a “Dominican Mass,” draw the logical conclusion . . .

Yes. Please don’t confuse all Dominican with some Dominicans.
In addition to what my brother, Fr. Augustine said: We run a school that offers MA degrees in Philosophy and Theology in Berkeley, CA (the Dominican School of Philosophy & Theology). We currently offer Mass according to our Rite on a monthly basis (usually a Low Mass, sometimes a Missa Cantata) at the School.
