    I’ll help today. San Lorenzo in Lucina, with Reni’s masterpiece over the high altar. In the same piazza as this church is fine gelato at Ciampini and the Baptist church in Rome.

    “Guido Reni’s Christ on the Cross (1639–40)[2] is visible above the high altar, framed by six Corinthian columns of black marble. Below the altar is a reliquary in which is preserved the gridiron on which tradition maintains that St. Lawrence was martyred.”

    Am I imagining it, or are all the columns and candles supposed to bring a grid impression? To remind you of St. Lawrence being grilled?
