Daily Rome Shot 1176: That’s concelebration, my friends.

This is a great shot.  In the same pic we see both the RED and the BLACK vestments which some of YOU helped to have made for The Parish™.  How it did my heart good to see them in use… all 6 side altars with priests in matching red or black.  That’s concelebration, my friends.

I returned home to find that this was the last trace of my mailbox.  It’s a good think I used mail hold!

Off to the hardware store.  I figured that since there was still some wizened 4×4 remaining, I’d get a unit that slips down over a 4×4.

This turned out to be serious work.   It wasn’t that the directions for assembly were difficult (they were stupid, but not difficult).  The places into which I was directed to screw the pieces together were not drilled.  Hence, there was no getting the screws through the super hard plastic.  No way.

Eventually, I used three increasingly large drill bits to create the holes.  I could have used a second drill.   By the time I was done, an hour later with this 10 minute project I was completely wrung out in the heat.  However, I had to get it done, because the mail hold had ended and it was delivery day.

Anyway, I cut off the top of that nasty 4×4 and extracted a few screws.  The part I cut off was cracked so I tore it off with a hammer claw and used it as a wedge at the base of the post to tighten things up and straighten the unity.  Done.   Mail was received.

In churchy news… I saw this.

You know how I am always ranting about the “demongraphic sinkhole opening under the Church”. The liturgical problems and the way the Eucharist is treated is a massive part of this. However,…

I simply have to add this…

    [NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.]

    At Tata Steel Blitz in India… Magnus took it all.  Again.   My guy Wesley fought back to 2nd.

    During the cover of the first rounds of blitz the commentators … well… I thought this was funny.

    Get it?

    The woman Tania Sachdev has a super disagreeable voice and can be quite annoying when over pushing the “host” mode.  Her comments on the chess are pretty good.  However, I noted with great interest that when Vishy Anand joined them at the table to comment, Tania’s voice immediately was less shrill and pushy and she clammed up a bit.   I always have a favorable impression of Anand, 5-time world champ.  Another reason to like him.

    RE the mail box: a victim of the hurricane or a drunk driver?

    What’s the new mail box look like after installation?

    I’ve heard it said that people came to Rome to see John-Paul 2 and to hear Benedict. It looks like under Francis they come for the architecture and avoid crowds. That picture was eye opening.

    Nice to see Fr. Ripperger at Mar a Lago. “I wish to thank Jesus Christ and president Trump. I’m proud to be a Christian American”

    Regarding the CENSIS survey, as long as I can remember I have thought the Church and other religious organizations have gotten things backwards. It seems to me first comes faith, then repentance and finally good works. I don’t think the Church was lacking in good works before the Council.
    Anyway, there are plenty of clergy at the local level who recognize that the way one treats his own family members is just as, if not more important than how one treats strangers. Can being kind to a beggar make up for neglecting an aged and infirm mother? The Church will get the social workers it wants only after preaching the Gospel!

    Here in Chile we do not have Mail boxes.
    I know but how do we get our mail? Well when we go to town we pick it up when we feel like it. If it is something important, then the Mail Lady Poleth sends me a text, ” Hey Gringo Jim ya got a package here. No worries I will keep it safe till ya come by cheers and have a nice day”.
    So what about all that JUNK MAIL? TRASH? WE GET NONE.
    What about all those bills? We do not have any for the most part what we do have is Email.
    Nope. I do not miss mail boxes.

    I’ve got one in 3.

    1. Qc6 Ka7 2. Bf3 Kb8 3. Qb7++.

    For the 2, I had the idea 1. Kc6 Ka8 2. Kb6 discovering Q++, but black has 2. Ka7.

    Dear waalaw,

    but 1. Bf2 Ka7 2. Qb7+ yields the obvious 2. … KxQ and it’s a draw due to insufficient material.
