Your Sunday Sermon Notes – 6th Sunday remaining after Epiphany (N.O.: 33rd) 2024

Egyptian statuette of an Israelite woman kneading bread dough.

Too many people today are without good, strong preaching, to the detriment of all. Share the good stuff.

Was there a GOOD point made in the sermon you heard at your Mass of obligation for this traditional 6th Sunday remaining after Epiphany, or, in the Novus Ordo, the 33rd Sunday of Ordinary Time?

Tell us about attendance especially for the Traditional Latin Mass.

Any local changes or (hopefully good) news?

A couple thoughts of my own: HERE  A taste…

What is the other prayer I referenced above?   You might use this when you begin any study, reading, indeed just about any endeavor.   We recited this prayer at the beginning of classes in Thomistic and Aristotelean philosophy.  It is attributed to the Angelic Doctor, St. Thomas Aquinas:

Concede mihi, misericors Deus,
quae tibi sunt placita,
ardenter concupiscere,
prudenter investigare,
veraciter agnoscere,
et perfecte adimplere
ad laudem et gloriam Nominis tui.  Amen

Went to Latin Mass @ St Mary’s Fennimore WI.
Full church. Beautiful, old church. We were visitors. Found it through the TLM Madison website.

Father basically said the Church can’t be destroyed. Yes, there can be weeds but it will survive.

Attended Holy Mass (VO) at the Carmel Monastery in Traverse City. Excellent homily tying Gregory XIII, JP II, B XVI and SOG John Harden about the birth of the Church- the piercing of the side of Our Lord. The mustard seed represents the growth of the Church.

A good mix of old and young in the congregation.

This note is about a neighboring parish, not my own. It’s about a conversation that took place after Mass between parishioner and priest (affable man in his early 80s who has eschewed retirement). Parishioner: “Father, I just wanted to mention how disappointed I was that in the weeks leading up to the election, your homilies never once mentioned the election nor any sort of necessity to vote against pro-abortion initiatives and candidates.” Priest: “Well, I’m of the opinion that the Church needs to stay out of that one issue. It’s complicated. We can’t have them dying of amateur abortions or needing to cross state lines to get the medical care they need.” Parishioner: “Thank you, Father, for that explanation. I will pray that you realize that you’re going to hell before it’s too late for you.”

Apologies for straying a bit off topic, but after Mass (TLM, well attended) I had a brief conversation with a young lady, who turned out to be a convert from Islam. Her instruction in the Faith will start soon. Please pray for her and other former Muslims who have met Our Lord, that they may persevere. Of all converts, they will face the hardest pressure to go back to the religion they have left behind.
