  1. Black can mate in 2. How fast can you find it?

[NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.]

Yesterday I thought Ding had it, but Gukesh slithered away and Ding went for the draw instead of pushing. There was a moment when Ding offered a draw by repetition and Gukesh declined by making a different move. The commentators and crowd in India went bananas.

Also, FIDE released new classical ratings. Arjun Erigaisi (21) now is over 2800 (2801) along with Carlsen (2831), Caruana (2805), and Nakamura (2802). Only 16 players have broken the 2800 barrier. Alas, my guy Wesley is not in the top 10 (@12) but I am hopeful that he will rise back up.

The ceilings in your last few Roman photos are beautiful and mesmerizing. Thank you for sharing.

Almost 5 minutes after several near misses, with White’s knight always the spoiler. Then it occured to me that the knight could be taken out of the action.

St Edmund Campion and companions, pray for us. Regarding the last picture: that’s an example of what an altar should look like (minus the hideous tabernacle, of course).
