  1. Black to move and mate in 2. How long did it take you? Under a minute? Over?

[NB: I’ll hold comments with solutions ’till the next day so there won’t be “spoilers” for others.]

Vincent Keymer beat Fabiano Caruana yesterday in their first game of the Final of the Freestyle tournament in Germany. Vincent now needs a draw to win the whole thing. With black Carlsen beat Jabokhir (who had knocked out Carlsen from the Finals). They are playing for 3rd (which seems strange when Carlsen is involved).

Chess and e-sports. Syndergy. Ding Liren signed with a Chinese e-sport thing called LGD Gaming. That means he is going to play chess. He says he will play in the Grand Swiss in Uzbekistan and the World Rapid and Blitz in Qatar.

Fabi has joined something called “Team Liquid”, which seems to be an e-sport thing.

Actually I think it was Rahm Emmanuel who first used the expression “never let a good crisis go to waste”, although I have read it originally came from Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals book, unsurprisingly.
