Wrapping it up at Fishwrap?

I don’t often mention the Fishwrap these days… how long ago was it that I started with that nickname?… because of their wearying lack of relevance.

However, I saw this:

This is interesting.

Remember this? You old timers will. HERE

May I ask you all to pray to St. Joseph, patron of the diocese where the offices of the Fishwrap (aka National Schismatic Reporter) are located? Pray that all the writers and staff of that heterodox and destructive publication either covert to orthodox Catholicism or else that they are driven to closure. Pray also that the bishops of these United States of America develop the courage to strip that publication of the word “Catholic” in their title.

St. Joseph, pray for us.

Dest-joseph-patron-of-the-churchar St. Joseph, Terror of Demons and Protector of Holy Church, Chaste Guardian of Our Lord and His Mother, hear our urgent prayer and swiftly intercede with our Savior, whom as a loving father you defended so diligently, that He will pour abundant graces upon the staff of that organ of dissent the National catholic Reporter so that they will either embrace orthodox doctrine concerning faith and morals or that all their efforts will promptly fail and come to their just end. Amen.

This is interesting. Another fact may also be an indication of their problems: I’ve noticed that many of their recent articles are by other organizations (OSV, Associated Press, etc.). Except for Madame Defarge and the Jesuit deposed by Pope Benedict, there is very little original content on their webpages.

Of course, for the most important reasons, the possible demise of the NcDistorter is a real blessing. But from a personal/snark perspective, if this signals the end, I will miss the fun I’ve had reading their “the church of what’s happening now, 1980s edition,” articles.

It is a delight to see the cash cow of social error and religious heresy evaporate.
Hopefully the entire staff will find real employment in far less sensitive positions anywhere else [hospitality, real estate, office administration of some sort] when the fraudulence collapses. Their efforts have only served to reinforce the protracted adolescence exhibited in any and every issue since its inception.
Once, quite innocently — I’m not being disingenuous — I had the opportunity to meet Rosemary Radford Reuther, a columnist of the NCReporter back in the post-conciliar “halcyon days” when I was a teen-ager. She was quite insulted that my adolescent self could comprehend her depth analysis. It was quite telling and humorous.
The narcissism of the enterprise and its contributors is noxious.
I wonder where the AUSCP will advertise their antics?

  3. Good luck for Mrs. Smurf to get a new job! Maybe she gets one on the local fishmarket for over a decade of experience in handling packing materials.

Sometimes the National Catholic Reporter publishes something positive. A recent editorial from Michael Sean Winters was a surprise to me:

Frankly, I remember a certain Phyllis-tine there trying to take down Fr. Z himself, thinking that they got a bishop moved, maybe they can keep the mojo going, or something. But forsooth, the funds are spent, the barrel dry – I guess we will have to wait and wonder. In my mind’s ear, tat’s “waiting for Zag’no” instead of Godot.

    Benedict Joseph,

That would be the Ass. of U.S. Catholic Priests. (Their head of communications used to to be the editor of our diocesan newspaper ?)
