Prayers for Pope Benedict

In checking the blog of His Hermeneuticalness this morning, I found…

I am reminded that Pope Benedict does have a public email address: benedictxvi@vatican.va

Now might be a good time to send a supportive and encouraging email. Obviously he is not going to read them all himself but it is possible that an official might let him know that there has been a number of loyal and kind messages incoming.

And do remember to pray for him. One way of reminding yourself to do this is to try to gain plenary indulgences as often as possible, fulfilling the condition of praying for the intentions of the Holy Father.

Remind others to pray for Benedict XVI.

I sent the Holy Father an email. There are days when I just want to give up when I see and hear of some of the things going on in the Church. And then I remember who is leading the Catholic Church and it fills me with hope.
    God Bless Benedict XVI

This is a great idea! And many thanks to you and to “H. Herm.” for your thoughtful support of the Holy Father.

I say the following prayer every day for the Holy Father. It was distributed by the FSSP first when John Paul II was pontiff and Benedict’s name inserted after his election. Following that I pray for his safety from enemies within and without, invoking St. Peter, Our Lady, Mother of the Church and St. Joseph, Patron of the Universal Church. After the Rosary I include the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be for his intentions. The Holy Father needs all the prayers he can get these days – as does our Church.

Almighty and everlasting God, have mercy upon Thy servant, Benedict, our Supreme Pontiff, and direct him, according to Thy loving-kindness, in the ways of eternal salvation; that, of Thy gift, he may ever desire that which is pleasing unto Thee and may accomplish it with all his might. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

    I’ll be sending an email.

For as long as I can remember, when praying the Rosary, I add three extra Hail Marys for the Holy Father, in imitation of Blessed Jacinta Marto of Fatima.

I’ll send an email to Papa Benedict, too. Thanks to His Hermeneuticalness for giving out the address!

  5. Great reminder, irishgirl.
I’ll begin this ASAP. A very simple yet powerful means of intercession. Thanks!

Thank you, Father, for the reminder! I just sent a message of support to our Holy Father.

“three extra Hail Marys for the Holy Father, in imitation of Blessed Jacinta Marto of Fatima.”

    Great idea, thank you!

Our schola director, yesterday on Passion Sunday, had us chant the “Oremus pro Pontifice” after communion. It is on (or around, depending on version) page 1866 of the Liber Usualis.

  8. optimist says:

We have been chanting “Oremus pro Pontifice” every Sunday after the Offertory antiphon since Lent began.

  9. irishgirl says:

Thanks, nazareth priest and Mariana! Glad to suggest it!

We ‘little people’ have to band together spiritually and help our Holy Father!

  10. irishgirl says:

Sorry for the triple post-I emailed the Holy Father, THEN I emailed His Hermeneuticalness [a/k/a Fr. Tim Finigan] to thank him for giving us the Holy Father’s email address!

Does that sound too wordy? : )

Done. Probably I should make a habit of sending something short & supportive just to get it counted by someone in the office as a positive comment. =)
