POTUS’ Period

Pres. Obama released 5 terrorists for 1 U.S. soldier, now accused of desertion, held by Taliban terrorists (not by a nation).

He said:

“Whatever those circumstances may turn out to be we still get an American soldier back if he’s held in captivity,” he said during remarks in Warsaw. “Period. Full stop.

However, on other occasions he said:

“If you like your current insurance, you keep that insurance. Period, end of story.

You mean “and now for something completely different” besides this guy was a deserter… who is he likely to vote for….

  2. Bea says:

In exchange for 5 terrorists? Who’s side is he on?

  3. off2 says:

I have no idea how to cite it properly, but on the site
    http://ad-orientem.blogspot.com/
is an interesting and relevant graphic.
    Quite a sight.

  4. SKAY says:

“In 2013, ICE freed 36,007 convicted criminal aliens from detention who were awaiting the outcome of deportation proceedings, according to a document obtained by the Center for Immigration Studies. This group included aliens convicted of hundreds of violent and serious crimes, including homicide, sexual assault, kidnapping, and aggravated assault. The list of crimes also includes more than 16,000 drunk or drugged driving convictions. The vast majority of these releases from ICE custody were discretionary, not required by law (in fact, in some instances, apparently contrary to law), nor the result of local sanctuary policies.”

Releasing dangerous criminals seems to be normal for this administration. I guess this explains why they are surprised at the reaction they are getting(even from some of their usual media friends) after releasing these five very dangerous men who are dedicated to terror and killing Americans. Kidnapping US citizens (not just soldiers) will become much more interesting to these criminals as a means to achieve what they want. A dangerous precedent has been set but I do not think this administration even cares.

Charles Krauthammer reminded the President never to punctuate an untruth. Maybe the President should try the truth, instead.

  6. aviva meriam says:

    Details, Details….
how DARE anyone actually pay attention to his past statements and question him….

  7. KateD says:

We just re-watched Air Force One last weekend. The moral of that movie, “The United States does NOT negotiate with terrorists.” I prefer the fantasy US president. Where is that guy? Can we get him to run in 2016?

  8. Marissa says:

This is literally the first time I’ve ever agreed with Obama or Rachel Maddow. It makes me feel kinda sick. I think a guy who might have been brainwashed and tortured by VC or NVA or Taliban deserves the benefit of the doubt, even if he originally got into that situation by deserting. If he turns out to be a terrorist, I’ll certainly take back my words. This all looks staged though; it really stinks to me.

  9. CrimsonCatholic says:

Yet there is silence from this administration about the imprisoned Marine in Mexico or the doctor imprisoned in Pakistan for helping the US locate Osama bin Laden. What is the Imperial President doing?

  10. Bosco says:

    ¡Vaya lío!

  11. Papabile says:

As a former infantryman, in principle, I agree with the President that we don’t leave a comrade behind on the field of battle.

We should even recover deserters, try them and hang them as necessary to good order and discipline.

With that said, I would never trade those five guys for the one we got back.

Having been a Congressional staffer focused on defense issues on the relevant committees of jurisdiction, that the President was willing to trade those five is absolutely unbelievable. It’s probably within his power, but it’s a literally insane decision.

  12. Papabile says:

Just quickly, I used the plural above when speaking about deserters in general.

Quite frankly, I would let the military do it’s work through the Article 32 process here.

  13. rodin says:

But “stand down” for the Benghazi four!

  14. DisturbedMary says:

Soon good faithful hard-wired Catholics will be in the same place as the unborn, i.e., at the mercy of whoever wants to kill us while our bishops remain mortally disengaged with the evil of this Administration. Bishops only shepherd immigrants, not Americans. This “nonpartisanship” gave Obama 54% of the Catholic vote and is why our country is now insane and wrecked. How long before BO pardons the blind sheik, Khalid Sheik Mohammed, and John Walker Lindh? Will it even be reported. But don’t expect to hear anything about the Prince of Lies from our Bishops because they are waiting for the bonanza of millions of immigrants to give turkeys to on Thanksgiving.

  15. Uxixu says:

It is almost amusing how tone def this administration was to the outrage they’ve stirred up. They simply cannot have believed there wouldn’t be a flap over it given the knowledge that they tried before the last couple years and had enough internal opposition to it.

It seems to be a complete red herring to the political goal of (illegally) closing Gitmo and possibly distracting from the VA scandal.

  16. Massachusetts Catholic says:

There is a US aid worker, a man in his 70s, who is being held in Pakistan by Al Qiada. His name is Warren Weinstein. He was kidnapped in Lahore in 2011. The president has not sent special forces, nor leaned on the Pakistani government to gain this man’s release. He was a contractor, I believe, for US AID, an agency of the State Department. He had spent decades working in developing countries helping people. He is also a Jew. He’s a forgotten man, not young and photogenic. No Rose Garden for him.

  17. Giuseppe says:

@Uxixu – I too am shocked at the tone deafness of this administration.

  18. aviva meriam says:

Thank you Massachusetts Catholic for mentioning this elderly US AID worker held hostage in Pakistan. I had no idea, and will add him to my prayers.

  19. Bosco says:

Bosco has come to believe that his earlier effort at ironical juxtaposition of the phrase¡Vaya lío! with all manner of lawlessness has been way too subtle.

If ‘making a mess’ in one sphere of life is an action to be celebrated, than who can condemn or judge another’s mess?

We are living in strange days indeed.

  20. acardnal says:

I hope the EPA is capturing the CO2 that “O” is exhaling!

  21. incredulous says:

I used to think Michael Weiner (Savage) engaged in outrageous hyperbole when he said that “liberalism is a mental disorder.” I must say that after seeing more than half the Catholics reelect President Ubama TWICE, it is clear that these voters are immune to fact, have no sense of self preservation, have no sense of charity for their neighbors, and consider virtue and logical thinking to be an anathema. They prefer emotion. How does one maintain a spirit of hope and love for their neighbors when they will go to concentration camps STILL supporting Ubama simply IMMUNE to how evil and destructive he is? Truly a mental disorder.

(BTW, for a while, the leftist media tried to change the spelling of the name of Osama Bin Laden to Usama Bin Laden. So, apparently, substituting the O for a U is acceptable.)

  22. incredulous says:

Actually, the FBI wanted poster (under Ubama’s and Holder’s control) does this. Why?

  23. Bosco says:

Incidentally, rather than designating that particular punctuation ion as a ‘period’, it is referred to as a ‘full stop’ here in Ireland…or ‘Fool Stop’ whichever applies.

  24. Uxixu says:

@incredulous, these are unfortunately the same sort of pseudo-Catholics who support homosexual mockery of marriage, a married and priesthood & episcopate that can marry after ordination, and permit unrepentant divorced adulterers to desecrate the Body and Blood of Our Lord.

The ancients would have called them heretics or apostates, depending.
