People have been writing to ask, “How’s the new bishop?” They refer, of course, to the newly installed successor to the late Bp. Morlino of Madison. Bp. Donald Hying, late of Gary, officially took his crook and cathedra in Madison on 25 June.
Bp. Hying is using tools of social communication! I received a note today that he will have, as he did when he was in Gary, a regular, even daily, short video to talk about some aspect of our Catholic Faith.
So, “How’s the new bishop?” Watch and listen for yourselves! Right now there are 232 views of the video and 576 subscribers to the channel.

I liked him and what he had to say enough to subscribe. We can’t have too many gentle reminders of the deeper treasures of the Church that await those who look.

I have had the pleasure of talking to Bishop Hying on a couple of occasions when he was in Gary, Indiana and he is a solid pastor who is not only orthodox, but humble and welcoming to everyone, whether the intellectual elite or the simple worker. Unlike many bishops, his liturgies like the Chrism Mass and ordination Mass are open to everyone in the diocese. He promotes traditional devotions, especially pilgrimages to Marian shrines. He is the perfect replacement for the great late Bishop Morlino and I would rank him close to the top among American bishops, in the class of Bishop Paprocki.
