ERMINE is in again

A few days ago I attended the conference held by the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments on sacred music. It was amazing how the attitude of the speakers toward Gregorian chant and Latin ployphony had change in since the election of Benedict XVI. Apparently, they are back in style.

Also back in papal style is ERMINE. Today at the annual visit of the Holy Father to the Piazza di Spagna to visit the monument dedicated to Mary under the title of Immaculate Conception set up after the infallible declaration of Pope Pius IX, His Holiness Pope Benedict (now gloriously reigning) wore his red gold embroidered stole over a scarlet mantelletta of trimmed with ermine. It was wondeful to see, particularly because it was chilly and rain was threatening.

Let’s see what else Benedict will bring back from the Church’s treasury!
