My daughter who lives in Maryland thought she’d have no electricity for a week.
It came on last night about midnight.
They were only without electricity for 24 hours and they had a houseguest.
They lost a tree but it landed where it did no harm to anyone.
The neighbor with a wood stove/fireplace got a bonus with firewood curtesy of daughter & family,
which also benefited them, as they got rid of the tree curtesy of neighbor.
A good homily and wonderful music at Mass (except for the Haugen/Haas Communion hymn). Also, Msgr. announced that an Anglicanf priest will be ordained Catholic in our diocese this week, and also in our diocese a group of former Episcopalians are coming into the Catholic church).
We are seeing an answer to this prayer from the Book of Common Prayer:
My wife and I attended a double ordination yesterday in Armagh Cathedral. Two young men, mid-twenties, a great attendance of clergy – lots of younger 30-45 year old priests, Cathedral was packed with the faithful. A number of young seminarians were in attendance also. It was a seemly event liturgically with good music and a fair sprinkling of Latin in an otherwise vernacular NO Mass. One of the two new priests is having a public TLM tomorrow! Te Deum laudamus…

Vespers yesterday at La Chiesa del Santo Rosario in Indy. Absolutely beautiful!
We got a little rain yesterday evening.
We had three excellent lectures yesterday re: the HHS mandate and religious liberty, given by three Knights from our parish. They were all good, but the lawyer’s talk was outstanding. Those of us who attended now have a much better understanding of how the courts are supposed to handle religious liberty cases.
A 22 year old friend of a friend collapsed last week, went into a coma and was unresponsive to treatments. They thought he was going to be taken off life support today, but yesterday, he came out of the coma and is now responding well. Thanks be to God!
The newest member of our extended family was baptized this past weekend. Joseph Robert welcome!
I asked St. Philomena for the grace of a child and promised if I became pregnant, we would give her the middle name of Philomena, if it were a girl. Two weeks after my invocation I became pregnant, and we just found out our baby is indeed a little girl. Zoe Philomena is due on the Feast of Christ the King!
I am planning on praying a Novena to St. Philomena in preparation for her Feast Day of August 11 and my primary intention will be the repeal of Obamacare. I hope to get many to participate with me.
We gave my uncle’s chalice, unused for 45 years, to a seminarian from Africa who never expected to have his own chalice. Please, please, if you have a chalice sitting around, return it to the Church. There are mission parishes both in Africa and in the Southern US that are in need.
Bishop Mueller was appointed head of the CDF!
After many delays, we begin packing today to make our final move out of the Bahamas….back home to Virginia, where I can attend the EF any time I wish (only 40 miles away). We spent 8 wonderful years here as Anglican missionaries. I return to the place of my birth a Catholic! Thanks be to God.
Just finished reading “The Great Siege – Malta 1565” – this knowledge of our Catholic history and heroic strength and courage will make any Catholic beam with pride and inspiration.

I`m starting to write a letter of application for a seminary. My pastor and I are going to meet the rector of the seminary tomorrow and the archbishop on Thursday. I feel so small and week, but God is great.

We found out recently that number 10 is on her way through adoption! When we told the little ones, my six-year old asked “what kind?” (I love that!) We’ve adopted different races and ages so it is a good question! We are so blessed! (I love hearing all of your good news. Keep it coming please!)
I went to Notre Dame last week, where many good things happened, including a great talk by Dr. Cavadini and another by Fr. Robert Barron. And Archbishop Carlson said very encouraging things about the replacement of namby-pamby “Fulfilled in Your Hearing” with a new directory that reflects B16’s “Verbum Domini”. Very encouraging.
But best of all for this alumna, Bishop Rhoades of Fort Wayne- South Bend preached in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart (on campus). He said in very clear, small words that the mission of every Catholic University is to SERVE the Church. I wanted to cheer.
I arrived at my new home on the west coast, safe and sound, yesterday. The cross country trip was incredibly beautiful, especially the Rockies and the massive mountains and rock formations in Colorado and Utah. I felt the grief, anxiety, and stress of the past year and a half just melting away. Being with the grandkids is also great medicine for the soul. Now I will also have access to a very traditional parish and a weekly EF.

We have had power, water, cell service, t.v. all throughout and following the widespread deadly storm that hit our area. And no storm damage at all. We are so very very grateful!
Many are unaware as to how hard the DC area has been hit. Today Monday, area neighborhoods still have no power. This is a problem for Air Conditioning in our oppressively humid 100 degree heat. A friend of mine was able to purchase a generator this morning, apparently sold out everywhere. [Unfortunately the best home generators might last as long as 8 hours and some people die from the ignorance of not venting them]. Many, many have lost the food in their freezers. Those out in the country have no water either because of well pumps. There’s a water-boil advisory at my husband’s office at Tyson’s Corner [huge shopping and office area]. Neighborhoods in some areas have compromised water systems and can’t access water. 80 intersections in Fairfax County, 240 in Montgomery County have no working lights. Yards, parks and streets are littered with trees and ripped up road signs.
At least nine died as a result from falling trees or even electrocution. Some buildings are utterly decimated.
In southern Virginia a cousin-in-law’s iron gazebo was ripped from its bolts and is a twisted wreck.
Friends on Facebook report livestock losses because of the heat.
My church musician friends report that they were sent home since the churches had no power for the organs. Hot churches had candlelight only, no microphones, and only vocal singing, if not simple low Masses. [sounds like good news to me, ‘cept for the 100 degree heat].
Friends are moving in with family members who do have electricity – same for me, I am helping out my family.
Power is slowly being restored here and there. The workers who normally come in from other areas to help in catastrophe are working hard in their own vicinities unable to spare any men.
Marie-Julie Jahenny predicted that the U.S. would be brought to its knees by natural disaster – turning men’s hearts back to God.
I am witnessing much kindness as people are helping others in their distress.
This past Sunday, we here in Pinswang celebrated the feast day for our Church’s Patron Saint Ulrich. Pfarrer Bader (from the nearby city of Vils) celebrated Mass in the beautiful 18th century Ulrichskirche (actually, the first Ulrichskirche – remains of which were found during last year’s interior renovations – dates back to the 15th century), noting in his sermon the need for all to become much more actively involved in the daily life of The Church The St. Ulrich’s Choir sung the music of The Mass, including works by FJ Haydn, Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Gluck. With the ‘Ite Missa Est’, most of Pinswang (and many visitors to our village) gathered for the great fest in the Churchyard. Copious amounts of sausages, pork cutlets, and refreshing beverages were provided to all. The morning became afternoon and then early evening as the local Musikkapelle and smaller local Tirolean folk music groups brought wonderful music to the festivities. A beautiful Summery warm day that again brought many of us in our tiny but vibrant village here in the Northern Tirol together in celebration. Best of all, the proceeds from this event very much helped cover some of the costs of last year’s restoration of the Ulrichskirche. Should you be in Austria anywhere close to Reutte or the border with Bavaria near Füssen (very close to Neuschwanstein Castle) at this time next year, please join us for what I am certain you will find to be a splendid day at St. Ulrichs here in Pinswang.
Thank you, Fr. Z for this post of good news and hope. We had a missionary priest from Texas yesterday who said there are 3 things…prayer, Mass, and confession. He also reminded us that the Catechism has 4 parts…Creed, Moral Order, Prayer, and the Sacraments which he emphasized. We were blessed.
My son graduates from Officer Candidates School this Saturday! He has worked hard, accomplished much and we couldn’t be prouder of him!
Herer in Southern NH the wild blueberries are starting to ripen, so I spent the day with friends hiking and picking blueberries. Now, the wife will make some of her AWESOME blueberry pierogies for dinner!
JoyfulMom7, is your son at Quantico? If so, our youngest son is in the same class, and we’ll (God willing) be there to watch him graduate. And yes, we can be very proud of all these fine young people.

The pastor at my N.O. parish announced that starting this weekend we will be praying the St Michael prayer after all Masses.
After losing my job six months ago teaching in a Catholic school (that went under), I signed a contract just a couple of hours ago to teach in yet another very poor area for even less than I made before. This, I very much believe too, is a calling and I’m very happy (though I will only be teaching Algebra I and Geometry)!
In NC, the State House of Representatives overrode all 3 of Bev’s vetoes from today (on the budget, Racial Justice Act amendment,and fracking). The Senate concurred with the Racial Justice Act amendment (to me, at least, it seems more like a major amendment than a repeal), passing it into law.
Update:according to the tweet from my local Fox affiliate WRAL, the budget is now law, too.
