    Santa Maria della Quercia, Rome?

  4. Well done.

It’s a lovely little church near Campo de’ fiori for the Confraternity of Butchers. It is very well tended and appointed. Once upon a time, because of their faithfulness in protecting an important image of Mary during processions that Sixtus V gave the confraternity the privilege of requesting the release of a condemned man once a year, on 15 August. One of the recipients of that privilege was Benvenuto Cellini. In a side chapel of the church, there is a long inscription in Latin about the granting of the privilege.

And the restaurant next door has been pretty good. I understand they are under new ownership now… just in time for the plannedemic, poveracci.

    Thank you, Father Z!

I’ll have to try that restaurant when I’m back in Rome. Thanks for the suggestion, Fr. Z!
