VIDEO: On Sunday, Bp. Thomas Tobin of Providence visited the parish entrusted to the FSSP. Terrific. Exemplary.

On Sunday, Bp. Thomas Tobin of Providence visited the parish entrusted to the FSSP.

This is talk he gave.

This is what I have been harping on for YEARS.

This bishop’s message was:

“You keep doing good to my diocese and l’ll cover your six.”

I keep saying, “BE ENGAGED!”

Be the first to volunteer to help.  Be involved in works of mercy.

This isn’t rocket science.

A thoughtful, considerate, and courageous successor of the apostles. Hopefully, his example will be emulated by his brother prelates.

Bishop Olmstead of Phoenix sent my FSSP parish a letter that said not only was he no threat to us, he encouraged ordinary form priests who are interested in the Latin mass to learn it, and he would help them. We’re having an all-night vigil this Friday to Saturday to pray thanksgiving for him, blessing for the Diocese of Phoenix and protection for all of us.

Is he the only Bishop to make a physical visit to reassure the faithful? I know many have written statements of support and encouragement.

I am so pleasantly surprised by the response of what seems to be the majority of bishops. My fears now lie with their eventual successors; new bishops may be chosen with their views on the extraordinary form in mind. Another fear is the traditional communities in union with Rome (FSSP, etc.). If the “motu proprio” has the eventual extinction of the EF in mind, what need would there be for the traditional communities? Oremus…

I can’t find the link now, but I saw a Facebook stream of Our Lady of Mt Carmel in Covington, Louisiana, and Archbishop Aymond happened to be there already for the Feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, thus the day of the Motu Proprio release.. he had reassuring words for the parish as I recall.

Bp. Olson of Fort Worth, TX had this to say yesterday at the FSSP parish in his diocese: https://fortworthbishop.org/2021/07/25/homily-for-the-seventeenth-sunday-in-ordinary-time-2/

Evan C, the video of Archbishop Aymond, of the Archdiocese of New Orleans, as the scheduled guest preacher at the conclusion of the novena on July 16 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Latin Mass Community is on that group’s facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/645786956290680/posts/867256534143720/
Archbishop Aymond promised that the TLM would continue at all 7 locations in the archdiocese where it is currently offered. In fact, a letter to clergy about that was already online (and copied on Fr. Z’s blog) by about 1:00 p.m. local time that day. Archbishop Aymond’s formal rescript is also on the website of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church in Hahnville: https://d2y1pz2y630308.cloudfront.net/16979/documents/2021/7/TC%20response%20signed.pdf
I attend the daily Latin Mass at St. Patrick’s in New Orleans, and earlier today, as a thank-you gift, delivered to the archbishop’s office a copy of The World, the Flesh, and Father Smith (by Bruce Marshall).

I was in the 4th row. It doesn’t matter much but I feel like I caught a bit of history happening in person. I told Bs. Tobin on his last visit soon after getting FSSP established in 2018 here that it was an act of courage to invite them, and thanked him.

St. Mary’s On Broadway in Providence is the next assignment for Father James Jackson, FSSP.

Praise Be for these fine bishops (the video and mentioned in the comments), heartening news.
