“If Newman were on faculty at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, he’d be fired.”

Is he wrong?

I don’t think so.

Even in Newman’s time, Newman wasn’t that well accepted by Catholic prelates, etc. … probably in part because he was so obviously smarter than most of the powerbrokers.

What a perfectly accurate observation. Im not a scholar of Newman’s theology, but typically the new, Synodal Church elevates only progressive thought, but they are very utilitarian. Of what use to their goal of upending the church and the faith is Cdl. Newman? There must be something they can use to advance the cause.

Kathleen10 – Card. Newman was the author of the concept of “development of doctrine,” that’s why the modernists looove him soooo much. Gives them lots of room to dance.

Do they read what he actually said about legitimate and illegitimate development? (Ssh.) But, hey, who reads?
