About this blog…
“This blog is like a fusion of the Baroque ‘salon’ with its well-tuned harpsichord around which polite society gathered for entertainment and edification and, on the other hand, a Wild West “saloon” with its out-of-tune piano and swinging doors, where everyone has a gun and something to say. Nevertheless, we try to point our discussions back to what it is to be Catholic in this increasingly difficult age, to love God, and how to get to heaven.” – Fr. Z

- The most evident mark of God’s anger and the most terrible castigation He can inflict upon the world are manifested when He permits His people to fall into the hands of clerics who are priests more in name than in deed, priests who practice the cruelty of ravening wolves rather than the charity and affection of devoted shepherds.

“Until the Lord be pleased to settle, through the instrumentality of the princes of the Church and the lawful ministers of His justice, the trouble aroused by the pride of a few and the ignorance of some others, let us with the help of God endeavor with calm and humble patience to render love for hatred, to avoid disputes with the silly, to keep to the truth and not fight with the weapons of falsehood, and to beg of God at all times that in all our thoughts and desires, in all our words and actions, He may hold the first place who calls Himself the origin of all things.”

Don’t rely on popes, bishops and priests.
“He [Satan] will set up a counter-Church which will be the ape of the Church because, he the devil, is the ape of God. It will have all the notes and characteristics of the Church, but in reverse and emptied of its divine content. It will be a mystical body of the anti-Christ that will in all externals resemble the mystical body of Christ. In desperate need for God, whom he nevertheless refuses to adore, modern man in his loneliness and frustration will hunger more and more for membership in a community that will give him enlargement of purpose, but at the cost of losing himself in some vague collectivity.”

"But if, in any layman who is indeed imbued with literature, ignorance of the Latin language, which we can truly call the 'catholic' language, indicates a certain sluggishness in his love toward the Church, how much more fitting it is that each and every cleric should be adequately practiced and skilled in that language!" - Pius XI
"Let us realize that this remark of Cicero (Brutus 37, 140) can be in a certain way referred to [young lay people]: 'It is not so much a matter of distinction to know Latin as it is disgraceful not to know it.'" - St. John Paul II

Let us pray…
Grant unto thy Church, we beseech Thee, O merciful God, that She, being gathered together by the Holy Ghost, may be in no wise troubled by attack from her foes. O God, who by sin art offended and by penance pacified, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy people making supplication unto Thee, and turn away the scourges of Thine anger which we deserve for our sins. Almighty and Everlasting God, in whose Hand are the power and the government of every realm: look down upon and help the Christian people that the heathen nations who trust in the fierceness of their own might may be crushed by the power of thine Arm. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. R. Amen.

VIDEO: Francis and Bishops…. Can we count on you?
This entry was posted in SESSIUNCULA. Bookmark the permalink.

Children, begging their spiritual fathers for bread. This is heartbreaking.
Now fill St Peter’s Square with a half million peaceful laity praying for the Pope and Cardinals and that they ‘Do The Right Things’…
How beautiful is this video. I liked the line about the TLM being the same all over the world, and by looking at each beautiful young person of all colors from around the world, who wouldn’t want to be part of it? I’ve never even been to a TLM mass and I support it 100%. Someday we will all be unified again, and it won’t be BLM it will be TLM.
And which of you, if he ask his father bread, will he give him a stone? or a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Or if he shall ask an egg, will he reach him a scorpion?
Lk. 11:11-12 (DRV)
God bless the youth who did this, [This is where you ought to have stopped.] but I wish they had omitted Vatican II. It is no coincidence that Trad. Cust. came out as more voices were arguing that the council, and not just its spirit, was bad. I’m thinking not only of Archbishop Vigano but also of Don Pietro Leone’s brilliant series on Rorate Caeli. I think also of Romano Amerio, among others. In his letter accompanying Trad. Cust., Francis wrote: “The path of the Church must be seen within the DYNAMIC of Tradition ‘which originates from the Apostles and PROGRESSES in the Church with the assistance of the Holy Spirit’ ( DV 8). A RECENT STAGE of this DYNAMIC was constituted by Vatican Council II….” (capitalization added) “Dynamic of Tradition”?!?!? Black of white? Francis is preaching a new religion that evolves, a new church that doesn’t possess Truth but keeps on looking for it. I won’t join Francis’ new religion to get his blessing to attend the TLM.
“ God bless the youth who did this, but…”
Always a “but” or something like that. Imagine if they didn’t. I appreciate it for what it is.
“With the express provision that those attached to this more ancient form re-affirm their submission to the Roman Pontiff, the full teachings of the Second Vatican Council and the validity and liceity of the post-conciliar reforms of the liturgy, I wish to offer the opportunity for this liturgy to continue in the Diocese of Knoxville.”
– Most. Rev. Richard F. Stika, Bishop of Knoxville (July 21, 2021)
While I’m very happy that the TLM will continue in the Knoxville Diocese, at least for now, I do wonder:
1) When would lay Catholics have ever expressed such and therefore be “re-affirming?”
2) Would not those things be specific to priestly ordination, religious vows, etc?
Can you imagine a bunch of progressive young Catholics (an endangered species I know) making a video like this? They would never do it because in reality they don’t care what the Holy Father or their bishops think. If you’ve already decided that you can pick and choose your Church doctrines, you’ve already decided the pope’s approval is nothing but a nice to have – useful to bash trads over the head when you can get it. Otherwise they just make recourse to conscience as an inviolable domain. The hierarchy is nothing but a useful political tool in this dynamic.
I’ve been trying to figure out why this thing has me down in the dumps so much. There’s only been one other time in my life when I felt like I just didn’t want to be a Catholic anymore – right when the McCarrick scandal hit. Why is this such a big deal to me? The truth is I care what the pope thinks! Sometimes I wish I didn’t, but I do just like those young Catholics do. I want to be in communion with my bishop. Francis is making me – all of us – choose between two thing we love. Face his constant ire and suspicion or give up traditional worship.
It’s an unbearable abuse of his paternal authority. An assault upon the Catholic soul.
If Pope Francis does not repent and soften his heart, I envision our Lord showing him this video at his particular judgment, then quoting both Lk 11 and also John 21:15-17. Frightful prospect.
JZ I know what you feel as I have had that reaction too. However I’ve not only gotten over being down about this but have now reached a point of joy as I’ve come to realize that there are spiritual blessings to be had as a consequence of what has happened. This whole thing has made me realize that the Church and the traditional Latin Mass are realities that are much greater than, and transcend, any Pope. It has made me come to understand that the traditional faith and traditional Mass are eternal, that they belong to the faithful and are theirs as of right, and can never be taken away from them. I have come to understand the present effort to suppress the traditional Mass as a persectuion that is to be suffered in union with Christ’s perseucution and sufferring. Finally — and this is not option for all but it is for me — I have decided to consecrate the balance of my life to perserving the traditional Latin Mass no matter how tiny and insignicant my support may be. Were the traditional Latin Mass ever suppressed entirely in my diocese (I don’t think it will be) I will move to wherever it is necessary to continue to attend it.
