I was REALLY hoping we would get a picture of Benedict with the snake wrapped around his shoulders… that would be one for a caption call!
“OK folks… I have taken ecumenism to a NEW level…”

Mark 6:18
Papa Benedetto is now a snake charmer!

in all of this..did you notice how gentle the Holy Father was in interacting
with the animals?
A man who is cruel or indifferent to the lower beasts will often exhibit the same
characteristics with the highest form of animal, too.
(That he is also a cat lover is a big plus in my book…:))

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Comment by Tony — 16 July 2008 @ 9:55 ambryan,
Yes, I was struck by the gentleness and care that he showed too. It was nice.
Comment by Jack Regan — 16 July 2008 @ 10:16 amI noticed, at the very beginning of the clip, that His Holiness was presenting an Order of some kind to somebody. Or perhaps he was the receiver of the Order? Any one with any info on this?
Comment by PMcGrath — 16 July 2008 @ 10:20 amThis gave me a fond memory of the photograph of the late Pontiff JP2 holding a koala bear. To me that was one of the iconic photos of a young JP2… right up there with the footage of him in a batting cage on one of his early visits to America.
Comment by ASimpleSinner — 16 July 2008 @ 11:36 amFor those of you who didn’t understand, it also said that the Islamic Institute was opening its doors to take in pilgrims for the event (for the most part Latin Americans).
Hmmm….
Comment by Deusdonat — 16 July 2008 @ 12:04 pmBreaking news: Pope Benedict has had a stroke. In fact, he has had many strokes; he’s been stroking every kind of Aussie critter! Most endearing, and amusing, footage. “Ah, zix months…”
Comment by Patrick — 16 July 2008 @ 12:12 pmASimpleSinner,
Did you mean this footage of JP2 at a batting cage?

Its a hoax with a John Paul 2 look-a-like.
Comment by Seminonymous — 16 July 2008 @ 12:29 pmHe really loves that koala bear, doesn’t he? (“Vouldn’t ze Vatican gardens look nice vith one of zees?”)
Is the fact that Msgr. Ganswein is wearing a plain black cassock with no sash in any way significant, or am I reading way too much into that?

As Cardinal O’Connor’s secretary used to say, “The moon doesn’t shine when the Sun is out!”
Comment by Tom in Columbus — 16 July 2008 @ 6:40 pmI am pretty sure that the Holy Father likes squirrels.
