May 30, 2012Government officials have barred the Church community from honoring Bishop Francis Li Yi of Changzhi’s status at his funeral, which is scheduled to take place in northern Shanxi province tomorrow.

The Franciscan prelate died of a stroke at the age of 89 on May 24. He had been ill since March.

Bishop Li, who was consecrated secretly in 1998, was approved by the Vatican but not recognized by the government. Despite negotiation with government officials, the Church community will not be allowed to recognize his bishop’s status at his funeral.

  2. Suburbanbanshee says:

The sheep know their shepherd, and the Lord knows those to whom He has entrusted His sheep. To refuse honor to a man of God only assured that he is given more honors in Heaven.

May light perpetual shine upon him.

  3. Kathleen10 says:

“Their hearts were hardened”. It never does seem to dictators and atheists that to persecute the Church only means it’s growth.
May Perpetual light shine upon him, and may he rest in peace.

Then the rest of us will do it.

Rest in peace, Bishop Francis Li Yi of Changzhi, holy man of God.

God of Mercy, hear our prayer.
May our brother, Bishop Francis Li Yi of Changzhi,
who followed your Son Jesus in the way of Francis,
and who has now been embraced by Sister Death,
enter that kingdom of peace and light
where your saints live with you in glory.
This we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord.
    Amen!

Let those who observe these things
    be blessed in heaven
with the blessing of the Most High Father
    and on earth
with the blessing of his beloved Son
and with the Most Holy Spirit, the Paraclete.

Let us bless the Lord God, living and true!
    Let us always render God
praise, glory, honor, blessing, and every good.
    Amen. Amen.
So be it. So be it.

In the meantime, we have a great holy example of a man in
China we should honor. Our brothers and sisters in the underground Church
know what reality is all about.

  8. I deleted some comments of a political nature.

  9. Knittycat says:

A Bishop is a Bishop is a Bishop. God and His people know this and honor this great man, despite governmental intrusion. I too will honor and remember him in my prayers.
